Buck Hill's J-Bar Deroped Friday night around 9:05 pm. The lift is fairly old. It has no warning system at all. The only controls are a very small start and stop button in the top control shack and a stop button at the bottom loading area. The lift does have deropement detectors but no warning system or drive of any kind.

Here's what happened:

A "J" was swung when a person got off. The "J" hit the sheave assembly at the top station. The "J" did break and the cable came off the sheaves. The crews did get it running again!

OK, The lift had another problem this Friday. One of the "J's" got swung into the spoke of the Bullwheel.

This lift is planned for removal this summer because it has so many problems.

This picture shows kind of what happened. Yes, that red line is a "J". Attached File  j_bar_problem2.jpg (690.41K)

It makes me so mad that they continualy close this lift as it is one of my favorites.

Surface lift deropements are very common, especially if they are at all neglected. It's always sad too see a favorite lift get pulled!

We have a combination J-bar that was built in the 60's. By "combination" I mean it is a Hall/Mueller/Home-Built lift. Ours deropes occasionally due to customers skiing WAY out of the ski track. This lift has two Chevy truck rearends as gearboxes with Mueller line equipment, Hall J's, and 8" well casing as towers. The most problematic issue we have with this lift is that it has aluminum bullwheel liners chew the punch-locs and rubbers that hold the J's in place. We re-space an average of 10 J's a week because of this setup. I wish our area would decide to remove this lift. I would take a carpet over this lift any day.

Does anyone know the Manufacturer of that J-Bar? It looks to me like the cable is WAY LOW in the bullwheel liner and is a canidate for deropement.

My first reaction to who the manufacturer is would be a Stadeli, or C/S, but I'm not sure.

I am not sure either. I have had the chance to look really well at it but still I can't find the make. It does derope very often several times a week.
