I am looking for information on Mad River Lifts. Does anybody have any feeback on that company and how the operate? I work for the USFS and am currently working with Mad River to remove three of the old lifts at Iron Mountain Ski Resort.

Welcome
Mad River Lifts' website is http://www.madriverlifts.com.
However, it might be cheaper and easier to go with Outback Construction of Ashland, Oregon since it's a lot closer and does the exact same service. Co-owner Craig Loop of Outback Construction is also a member of this site and his member name is Outback if you want to get in touch with him.

Outback Construction's website is http://www.outbackconstruction.com
Synopsis of both companies:
Outback Construction: http://skilifts.org/...onstruction.htm
Mad River Lifts: http://skilifts.org/...driverlifts.htm

Mad River lifts had a project at Park City Mountain Resort last construction season and they were asked to cease their construction efforts due to some rather serious problems. DTec then stepped up to the plate to finish and correct their mistakes. I would recommend that you have Mad River build nothing for you. Any other feedback out there?

I must agree with old school, I was on a job in Palm Springs and the Robinsons were asked to leave that job also. It seemed they couldn't even work a grip hoist. I've not done that much work with them but in good faith I cannot recommend their work.
What now?

It seems that Mad River Lifts does quite the business these days compared to other lift installation companies. Maybe Mad River Lifts just grew too quickly and had too many lift projects and not enough qualified people for them? If you look on MRL's website, it did a lot more lift removals compared to installations this year.

Being one of the persons who fixed what was done at park city by mad river lifts, I can personally attest to the lack of professional quality in thier work, especially in the areas concerning placement of concrete footings for the return terminal, and field welding. I am by no means a master installer of lifts, but if you have to change the steel of a terminal to match the concrete, well thats just plain hackery in my opinion.
I have been a certified welder for the last ten years in both arc welding and mig. In my professional opinion, the welding that was done on the said lift was down right amature, if not dangerous. Now removal of a lift is quite another thing, simply put it's alot simpler than installation and could done by mad river. I'm assuming mad river throws down some pretty low price quotes for thier work. Just keep in mind that a lift is a big expensive piece of machinery that carries very precious cargo, and I would think that most would want the job done correctly. You get what you pay for.
p.s. my opinion in no way reflects that of my employer.
