How about 12 feet of air to a flat landing! Dumb 12 year olds, I'm surprised he didn't break a bone :crying:

I'll have to take some pictures of RTS at Willamette Pass the next time I'm there. The run has a maximum angle of 52 degrees and it's one of the 5 runs in North America for speed trials.

I went there last year, it was closed due to low snow. I wasn't impressed on difficulty, it was steep, but short and straight down the fall line.

Thats exactly what you need for speed trials though.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

I didn't say it didn't look fun, just that with all the build up about how steep it was it was a little disapointing to see how short it was.
The back side has as much (if not more) challenging terrain, fun place.
Are speed trials still held there? I didn't get a chance to use my long boards at SkiBowl before they lowered the rope on the Upper Bowl chair between tower one and two. It ruined Ptor's speed trials there.

Yea, RTS is pretty short and its steepness goes away pretty quickly. The last speed run that I know of at WP was about 5 years ago.

Did you do DNS while you were at WP? That's a fun steep tree run that's not on the trail map.

P.S. That's not RTS in the picture.

Well, if it's not on the map I'm not sure how I'd know if I skied it or not. There was no powder, a rock hard spring morning, I even waited an hour before heading out. The trees were bullet and cut up bad, big moguls under the 6 pack at the top. Looking at the pic again, it looks like the first or second run on your right while riding the HS chair. ( I don't have my map in front of me and WP's map sucks big time!)

You could scare yourself on this rock.

K2Skier, your picture looks to be of the run escalator on the backside.

The map it has on its trail map is from the 02 ski season and doesn't even show the HSS.

The picture below shows where DNS is located. It comes out at the bottom of RTS.

I remember that area, skiers left off the top heading towards the back side. I stopped and looked 4-5 times at the great lines! It was typical spring, rock solid in the morn, 1&1/2 hours great corn, then mush.

Where's that at? Some fresh snow and it would be amazing.

Not a picture of the actual run, but I'll nominate Gunbarrel at Heavenly on anything but a powder day.

In that picture why does it appear that they are downloading the lift?

Nice!, Does anyone have a pic of the Cirque on Whistler?

I'll have to go through the ones that I took as I might have one, but it was awesome on my trip two weeks ago with over a meter new in 5 days.

It looks like they are downloading the lift because they are. The front side of Heavenly going up from the California base is all Black/Double Black. There is one VERY long traverse that goes around and down, but otherwise any non-expert skiers need to download if they go down on that side. You can also ski to the bottom of either Nevada base, or download on the Gondola from the center and take a bus back to the California lodge. Gunbarrel is a ton of fun on powder days, or on nice warm spring days when it is softened up nicely, but its downright scary in marginal conditions.
