Neat pic! What is that other little counterweight for kind of in front of the terminal?

Another lift that had this same setup was the former lift that was replaced by the Stella Express at Schweitzer. I really wish I got some pictures of it because the track was really long and it was amazing to see the terminal slide up and down the track when the lift stopped.

E-brake weight. The brake is a steel band lined with cottonwood (no joke!) that is pulled tight by that weight and released by a small hydraulic sylinder. Pretty common retrofit on older Riblets when code started requiring that the brake set automatically. The operator used to set the brake manually by yanking on a lever on the floor of the shack (top drives) or attached to tower 1 (bottom drives). Imagine being in a panic situation and having to set the e-brake yourself!

I will try to get a pic of it but I have seen some riblets that have what looks like a counterweight on one of the towers in the middle of the line. Does anyone know what this is?

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Just a guess not having seen the exact one you're talking about, but I've seen few that have those in the Northwest. They are, I've been told, dampening devices to absorb tower vibration.
