I recently talked to a collegue in Europe who told me about a similar fire in the top terminal of an 8 passenger gondola in Italy. Apparently the maintenance crew had burned some old wooden cable spools and the hot ashes caught some other materials on fire causing major damage (new haul rope+++++) to the drive station.
I will coment further when I get more details.
This is like the condo fire (happens at least once a year in Colorado) where the occupants clean out the fireplace, put the ashes in a paperbag, put them outside on the WOOD balcony, and go skking for the day. When they come back, the condo is burnt to a crisp!
