Think of a spindley version of Killington without all of the lifts or crossovers, and then give it lift access completely with Hall doubles, and you have Smuggs.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

Smuggler's Notch Resort is a typical new england ski area with a lot of charm. It mostly caters to families and locals, most of the families stay down in the village and on the lower mountain (Morse) which has primarily easy beginner terrain, whereas the locals are mostly up on the upper mountains (Sterling and Madonna) There is a lot of sweet expert and intermediate runs on both of the upper mountains. The stuff we ski up at smuggs is mostly in the woods. Smuggs has a TON of tight twisty steep woods runs that aren't on the map. Those woods runs alone make the trip up there worth it! The lift lines get kinda long on weekends since the only lifts are Hall doubles, but the long lines and long ride up help rest the legs after a long top to bottom run thru the trees!
I have some pics on my website showing a little of the life and skiing at Smuggs...
Smuggs 3-21-04
Smuggs 12-18-04
Smuggs 2-27-05
Smuggs 3-5-05
feel free to ask more questions, i'll be glad to answer them! I've skiied there for the past 20 years, I used to teach the kids ski camp there for 5 years (5 years ago) so i'm pretty knowledgeable about the area.

Summertime the lifts are off. The Long Trail passes over the top of Sterling and They offer various hiking programs, they have a full kids summer day camp program, plus there are miles of great XC mountain bike trails up there.
