Yesterday I went to Monarch, and in addition to some turns I was going to photograph their lifts. However, when I dug into my pack I discovered that I'd forgotten the camera. The place needs some more exploration, though, so next time I'll bring it. The place is definitely a laid-back, old-style ski area, right down to the deer and elk heads on the wall of the day lodge. It's got some pretty good intermediate/advanced sking as well.
Lifts:
Breezeway: late '60s Hall double
Tumbelina: early '70s Hall double
Panorama: early '70s Hall double
Garfield: 1969 Hall double
Pioneer: 200? CTEC fixed quad
Some of the Halls have been reworked with concrete terminal structures- apparently the steel wasn't holding up. I couldn't ask my counterparts because they looked very busy, and I know how that goes. Garfield in particular had an original manufacturer plate stating that it was a 'high capacity' Hall lift...

I was looking at an old map of monrch from the '80s on Brad's site and it seems that tumbolina was shorter than it is now or it replaced another chair. Does anyone have any information about this or was that map when the chair was proposed? Heres the map:

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

That looks like (but don't hold me to it) a map from before Tumbelina and Panorama were built. Maybe Panorama was up at the time of this map but there's a lot of trails missing. Perhaps it means the proposed lift #3. There once was a stick poma going up where Tumbelina is now; you can see the old line above and to the right of the baby lift shown on this map. I remember hearing that there was a rope tow that used to run up next to the Poma, and that is what's shown on this map. Tumbelina has that mid-unload, you remember? I think that's about where the old rope went to.

Ok I didnt know about the rope tow, It looked like the lift shown on that map ran to about the midstation of the current Tumbolina so I thought that it might have been lengthened at at later date.

Also does anyone know when the ropetow on gunbarel was removed? And if there are any remnants still on the run?

It definately would have taken alot of strength to hold on to it all the way up.
