We all know that the Quick Silver at Brek was the first High speed lift but it is no longer running. I was just trying to find the oldest running Highspeed lift. I came across the the Summit Express @ Mt Bachelor but it was retrofited in 1997. So I'm just wondering what everyones thoughts about it are.

Many lifts were installed in 85 that are still running. I know vail put in lift 4, 7, 11 and 16 that year and other than removing the bubbles from 16, they are unmodified. I bet there are several other lifts from 85 that are still around.

Gore mt had a 84 installs that many still be around.

I believe the original Quick Silver is still running (just updated) and is at a resort in Canada.

Really? I thought it was scrapped. Well, the Whistler Gondola installed in '65 was "detachable", it came off the line and then the lifties somehow threw it back on the line so i suppose it could be considered detachable...

The oldest high-speed 'chairlift' that's still in operation in North America is the HST at Gore. There are still some old detachable gondolas in operation like the one at Ski Apache.

What vintage and make is the HST and that gondola?

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

The HST is a Von Roll while the gondola at Ski Apache is a PHB Hall I believe.

Interestingly, the original Quicksilver topic started right after I sent an e-mail to coskibum (before I was on the forum) about the relocation of the lift. .
