What was the worst ride you have ever taken, On a skilift. Mine would have to be Ramshead a really old, rusty, ugly looking lift. It scares the hell out of me. I'fee as if i'm going to die. And its so slow! Its 1770m long, and old Muller double. Whats yours? :shocking:

Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

I don't remember ever having a bad time on a ski lift. Skilifts have fascinated me since I was 5 years old and climbing lift towers at Mt. Sunapee. Probably the worst experience would have been when I was told to come down off of the tower.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

The Wayback at Keystone. It's really slow, and when I wanted to ride, there was some problem that stopped the lift for a while. I don't know if that was the lift's fault, but the ride itself is boring.

The Wasatch lift at DV is pretty miserable in a storm when the wind is blowing hard. It's always windy up there, and the lift is exposed the whole way. The snow in your face starts to hurt

Vail Lionshead Gondola, we got stuck on the old vail gondola for arround 2 1/2 hours one day at one of the highest, windiest spots and rocked back and forth for the whole time and when it was done they offered no compensation for the lost half of the day.

Mine would be the Summit Express at Mt. Bachelor. Back when it was a triple, my dad and I rode that up thinking we would find some nice fresh powder. Boy, what a mistake we made. The lift was going so slow and we were constantly being pounded with pellets and high winds along with it being a total white out. I would say the temp was about 10 degrees and the wind blowing like 40 or more mph.

Another chair that can get nasty due to weather is the T-Bar at Breck. Fortunately its short and usualy is shut down in bad weather but it makes me wonder how much they are going to be able to keep the Imperial Express running in the high winds that shut down the T-Bar. Hopefuly being in the bowl will help avoid that senario though

I'd prefer to be on a t-bar in ad weather simply for the sole fact that you are on the ground. If need be you can bail pretty easily off the lift and ski to somewhere sheltered or seek out an actual shelter if it is extremely bad weather.

I deffinately agree thats why I am hoping that where imperial is that it will be fairly protected since Breck often is very windy and get the nickname Breckenfridge.

My most miserable ride would have to be the Sheer Bliss at Snowmass back in the late 80's. My Mom & I rode this 16 min long Riblet center-bar double and did not realize how windy it would be toward the top. Well it was windy enough to cause the lift to stop (operators had to stop the lift). When the lift would stop we could hear the loud clanging of the chairs slamming into the halos around the towers. Many seats were also being flipped up by the wind. Amazingly, the lift stayed open the rest of that day but the Big Burn chair HSQ (1-2 years old back then) was shut down.

Storm Peak at Steamboat used to be a rough ride back when it was a FGT (12 min ride with no stops or slows which was rare). I remember a time when visability was so poor toward the top of that one that my Dad and I could not see the carrier in front of us all we could hear was the motor at the top terminal and just saw white. Luckily we were able to see just at the last minute where we needed to unload.

I vividly remember riding up Apex's old Mill Chair (I think it was a Mueller double with some sort of horendous molded plastic seats) on New Year's Day 1985. A northern cold front was blowing in and the temperature literally dropped about 20 degrees in less than an hour. As my chair crested the top, ice crystals were blowing into my face like mini spears and the wind threatened to stop the lift completely. The last 20-30 yards before the offloading ramp felt like an eternity. Needless to say the lift soon closed and my buddies and I decided that the Gunbarrel Saloon was a more inviting place to be for the remainder of the afternoon.

A tie with the Snowlite Express and F Lift at Huntah last year. F Lift broke down 4 like 1 hour and I was stuck on it in the snow. The quad when it too broke down in december last year it took forever.

Timberline lift at Winter Park. Since the area it serves is exposed and very windy and since WP has apparently never heard of surface lifts, especially in windy bowl areas, it was a very hair-raising ride, and the fact that it stopped several times didn't help either
