i once had to EVAC out of the K1 a few years ago because the main power supply cable was cut off. an dlo and behold only rams head and a few othe rlifts run on their own power.. so early morning first run the gondi is going and it gets cut out. we Evac by ropes and it was around the highest point.. (yaoma would know, the part when its next to flume and above the rocks/streams and stuff) It was pretty scarry. they sent up a team of guys up flume and they hiked to the nearest tower and attached themselfs to the haul rope and made it to each cabin and was on the top sorta like in that pic above. VERY wild time.

funny thing was it was a great day too. we hiked up to peak like 10 times and made runs that were UNTOUCHED

ahh good memories

 • Interests:yo, my name is Christian, and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (Berkeley ....sort of) skiing is what I do best, and I love the mountains. Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

I would like to see how they do an evac from something like the mammoth gondola (as it goes over the saddle) or the squaw tram.

At Copper as well as many other places, we harness up, clip onto the haul rope, and ride the cable down to each chair. We have a 'device' on the end of a long rope, which is a seat/chair with a safety loop for the passenger to slip over his/her shoulders. We talk the passenger through the process of getting off the chair onto the device, and then belay him/her down to the ground. Once the chair is empty, we move our cable-rider to the downhill side of the grip and go to the next chair. On fixed-grip lifts, we don't ride the cable but perform the evac from the ground. The rope goes over the haul rope and has a 'rope saver' that prevents it from getting torn up on the steel. To move to the next chair, the rope is flipped over the grip.

We use the same system on all of our lifts including our HSQ. Al evacs are performed from the ground and all on mountain departments are trained at least twice a year in doing it. Snowmaking, Learning Center and obviously lifts are the three departments that are trained the most in evacs.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

How they evacuate a chairlift in my favourite ski area, like liftmech said I think:
I've made these drawings last year for another website, that's why there are french terms. Here are the translations:
 • Câble du télésiège = Chairlift rope
 • Poulie = Pulley
 • Plate-forme = Platform
 • Skieur(s) qui ont froid = Bored and freezing skier(s)

werid, im not sur ehwat year it was.. all i know is that a tree fell down on R4 around the main generator or w.e and knocked out a set of power lines and they closed everything but the self suffiecent lifts.. so snowshead/ramshead were the only opened... and they gave everyone vouchers for a free ticket..

weird.. un K like to give free things.

Well yeah idk if it was within 4 years.. all i remember was t was back before they replaced all the chairs on the super star quad for newer poma ones.

and other little details..

Mike
