Thanks for the great pics Jeff, I always wondered what a Yan pulse gondola would look like and gotta love those portal towers. Does the gondola run in jig-back style, or do the cabins go around the bullwheels?

seems like an overkill on the sheave trains. i doubt the loads are big enough to warrent all of those!

Yeah that is what I thought, why would they use such complicated equipment for a people mover?

One of the key factors for a pulse system is what is called "point loading". It looks like the cabins are 6 or 8 place in groups of five - when all five fully loaded cabins come over the assembly, that's when it matters! You can see in some of the photos where the bare rope is not touching all of the sheaves.

the cabins are 6 place. For thoses that think this lift is a waste. IT'S NOT. there are some really steep hills in the park.

This is what I was thinking as well. But a thought comes to mind (they're few and far between these days haha!) - is it not code to have deropement detection on the lead in two-er? Or does a tower like this differ a bit.
Fantastic pictures, Jeff!

far as i know the tramway code for co is that there must be deropment detection on all towers. I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure you're right - however I always thought it was supposed to be between the first two sheaves.

It looks like the derail switches are between the centre two sheaves. All of our Yans (at least the ones with original equipment) are like that as well.

Colorado does not specifically address this issue - following the ANSI b77.1-1999 code section 2.1.3.3.2 "On each sheave unit, suitable devices shall be installed and maintained that will stop the aerial tramway in the case of deropement..."
I don't know what speed the run it at, but it may have the old style YAN RPD's if they are at over 600fpm.

That's the only YAN gondola to use CWA cabins, right? though it's kind of redunant as the only other YAN gondola failed miserably.

Yes and no actually. There is a Yan tram at the base of the Stagecoach Express at Heavenly that's owned by a hotel with a CWA cabin.

Don't forget about the Yan/Von Roll gondola that was built at Squaw Valley too.
