As well, I went to the Banff Gondola for my Canada day weekend, Here you go and enjoy. What is cool about this lift is that no company did the electrical stuff, the mechanics a crew did it all by themselves.

Nice work! I dont know anything about the Banff Gondola. Is it used for skiing in the winter or just sightseeing?

Strictly sightseeing. It's run year round to get people to the look out atop sulphur mountain. There is a walking path available in the summer to a weather station and second lookout. Cross Country skiers in the winter or hikers in the summer who brave the long climb can get a free ride down the gondola. The slope is unskiable due to several large cliffs and drops.

When was the gondola built? Are the cabins a replacement?

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

The original gondola was built in 1956 by Bell Engineering, then in 1982, minor changes were made by Garaventa and new cabins were added. In 1998, everything was re-done by Garaventa, the original towers remain, but were fitted with new sheaves and nuts and bolts. And new 4 person CWA "X" cabins were put on.

Thanks for the great media! It's wonderful you managed to get up above the drive system. I never get tired of watching acceleration systems like that.

I wonder what the solar power units that are found on the hanger arms are for? I presume that there is an emergency radio inside and that's what powers it.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason. There are speakers in the roof of the cabin so it only makes sense.
