This spring has been abnormaly wet especially in the southern part of the province, which probably Zage and Jessevano can attest to. What happened last week end was a dump of rain in the mountains. They received a years worth of rain in about 48 hrs which amounts to quite a lot of rain in a area that doens't hold it. So naturally the rivers are the source for all that flow. On Monday Night the flow reached its crest through the Edmonton river valley and the river rose about 20 ft over the course of the day. Luckily no flooding occcured but it was about as close as we've come to a flood in the past decade. Other majour Cities were hit including Calgary and Red Deer which saw major flooding in part of their neighbourhoods. I made a trip down to the river on monday and got some rather interesting shots of what a swollen river looks like first hand. It was also a remarkably beautiful day in the city (Alberta Bluebird style) which made it all the more interesting an experience.

Disasters bring out people in droves and it was one of the busiest nights in recent memory in the river valley. These folks are adminring what's left of the boat launch in Laurier Park. It usually is 20 ft below where these people are standing.

A lonely Light post which usually stands guard half way to the river is now standing alone in water.

This path usually skirts along the river a good jaunt above the water level here it's
covered in water for a good stretch or in other spots just inches away from being underwater.

Lastly is the laurier pedestrian bridge. The closest peir was getting a constant stream of logs crashing into it. As well the steel guard which are integrated into the upstream side of the peir is almost completely submersed.

Yea, what a month we have been having. I went out in the past 3 weekends storm chasing, and I have got to tell you, I have seen some spectacular stuff, unfortunately I don't have any pics. I have been going to my local river lately the Bow River, I was there on Sunday and it was high, then I went there on Monday and the water level drooped 3 feet. I haven't been there since, I might go tomorrow and check it out. And we got another big rain storm this past weekend causing my basement to re-flood.
