At some point I'll do a technical writeup on the other two ropeways they have at Cedar Point.

Cedar Point is in Sandusky, Ohio, about one hour East of Toledo. The park is on a peninsula ("point") into Lake Erie. It's a beautiful location!

what other ropeways are you referring to at Cedar Point? As I recall they don't have any other aerial, unless you are referring to Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. I'll be there on Friday to enjoy both of those fine creations.

Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

why is one side in the front gate ternimal lower than the other? At the old gondola at great america, which looks almost exactly the same as that, i don't remember seeing one side lower. Is it for acceleration?

Yup. There are no accelerator tires in the station, so the entire thing is gravity powered. I supose that leads to a very inflexible rope speed.

Bingo  When you're there, stand next to the hydraulic building (across from the washrooms beside Magnum's entrance). Watch the deflection sheaves that lead the rope down into the winding drum. And then let someone tell you that gondolas or chairlifts can't run faster than a certain speed because of sheave wear or whatever.

I know they used to have a 2nd gondola that ran from midway near the terminal near iron dragon and would drop you off on the upper level of the bathroom facility located next to the mine ride. You used to be able to see the gondola cabins in the boneyard before the area was cleaned up for the new campground.

The only other aerial lift that I am aware of was a monorail that they had that used to occupy the space near the blue streak.

yeah, I love standing back there, especially when you can feel the ground shake from the launch. Top thrill dragster has become quite the headache for the mechanics there, a lot more than originally anticipated. Between cables breaking, problems with the hydraulic motor during the first season, and rolbacks, one has to wonder if Cedar Point would have installed the ride if they knew what expenses were going to be incurred.

I was at the park on Friday for coastermania and had a great time. had to escape during the day a bit as it got crowded w/ all of the school groups but after 6 most of the rides were less than 15 minutes to get on.

You're lucky you got on when you did. Yesterday something related to the launch got all screwed up! It'll probably be down for a while.

I've heard that some of the brake fins starting to rise before the launch sled had passed. Brake fins were broken off and the train suffered some damage. Not looking good for Kingda Ka to start running anytime soon.
