First Time is 137 feet shorter than the COP high speed quad, and 65 feet shorter than the Sunshine Accelerator at Bachelor too...does that give it the top (or bottom) spot?

First Time, PCMR, Utah - 1823 ft
Sunshine Accelerator, Mt. Bachelor, Oregon - 1888 ft
Legacy Express, Canada Olympic Park, Alberta - 1959 ft
- Tyler
West Palm Beach, FL - elev. 9 feet

Actually, I guess the shortest HSQ is the Easy Rider Express at Sierra at Tahoe at 1165 feet long. However, we are going off topic now.

Is that shorter than the Atomic Express at Horseshoe Valley? That's got to be one of the shorter detachables...!

Funny easy rider is only 1100 feet long. Here are some pictures: http://skilifts.org/images/resort_images/c...r/easyrider.htm

Wow! Thanks for the clearup, Cameron. It's hard to imagine one shorter than the Atomic. It hardly seems worth having a detachable in that situation (but, I'm sure glad it's there!). That lift is special to me because it was my first high speed lift.

The "Easy Rider" lift sure is beautiful. I just love that style of Doppelmayr terminal. So perfect...

I feel the graphics take away from the aggressive look of the terminals but overall dopps are a thing of beauty....

Yeah, for sure - just silver and black like that would have looked awesome. Are those panels painted steel? I'm curious about the skin construction.

Yea I suppose they are painted silver. Sierra has never really had nice name painting on their lifts because before the phoney graphics they had big bold red print which was also very ugly. The lifts would look a lot better with black towers but oh well. Anyways they have three such doppelmayr express quads, all three replacing old yan express quads (type 7 I believe): http://skilifts.org/ca-sierra.htm

Slide Brook is also the only lift I've been on that has the "this lift might run backward on purpose" signs on the towers, I assume as a way of doing an evac. What good a controlled rollback would do them on a net-horizontal lift, I'm not sure.

It's not a controlled rollback, but an actual reversal in the direction of the drive. As Vons said, it is occasionally used for bringing a misloaded chair or failed grip back to the terminal, but that's rare.

Sierra at Tahoe looks so nice. I find it so hard to "narrow down" where I want to fly to next winter to do a snowboarding trip, there are so many great looking places with awesome ropeways!

(However I think I've settled on Sunshine Village/Panorama/Lake Louise, for what it's worth)

Panorama is a bit of a drive from LL, isn't it?

I dunno, I thought those 3 were all really close to each other? I thought there is like a cluster of 3 places right next to each other close to Calgary.

Lake Louise, Sunshine and Mt. Norquay are are the ones in Banff. Panorama is like 2 hours away, which isn't bad at all. There is also Nakiska and Kimberly and Kicking Horse. I'm not sure how far you like to drive to ski areas, but I'm used to it since all the ski areas in Oregon are spread out except for the ones on Mt. Hood.

Nakiska are is about an hour out of Calgary in Kananaskis. About 30 mins from Banff. Kimberly is in Southeastern BC and not a day drive from Banff. Kicking horse is the same distance as Panorama from Banff but through a different mountain pass.

How about a twist to this question: what is the quad with the longest vertical drop?

I vote for Challenger @ Sun Valley w/ about 3,200'

Challenger takes that hands down. There are a few HSQs rounding off in the mid 700s but even that is still over 150 m short.
