That's pretty high tech for a bike rack.

surprise surprise...

They work really well though. The riders can load/unload them themselves.
Lifty just needs to watch.

Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.

Let it snow.

Does the lift run at full speed, or do they slow it down so people can load the bikes easier?

Usually we run at 3.5m/s. Sometime a little quicker if its really busy.

At Cypress I have no idea how fast they will run it as this is there first year. Best would be to email them.

Aussierob, how much load does Garbanzo get in the summer, also are you guys planning to expand the park again in a couple years?

Dumb question, but since it seems that the bike racks replace the seat, where do the riders sit? Is every-other chair a regular chair? And if that's the case, how would you unload your bike, if you're in the chair behind it?

WBSKI - Garbanzo is typically not that busy as a lot of riders aren't up to riding the trails that it accesses. They are in the process of building a new trail called Freight Train right now and I think the plan is to to continually expand it with some easier trails to take the load off Fitzsimmons.

Duck - Every other chair is a regular chair. At the top you unload and take a few quick steps and pull your bike off in the turnaround. Seems to work quite well. At both stations we use most of the turnaround for loading/unloading as it requires that much more time than with skiers/boarders.

The bike park opens today. 50% off. Only 200 people let in because only one trail is complete. Theyre a bit behind schedule...

So much for the bike park, its not going to be running this year and probably not till the olympics. Not a huge suprise but they say its because of the Olympic construction, not because the fact that people like trails on Burke and Seymour more so they go there instead and just drive... Anyways, i think thats pretty pathetic as they did just start last yr and they didnt mention anything of sorts until May 1st. Plus im thinking they might relocate Super Pipe to Whistler cause if they have a year like last year there will be no chance for Super Pipe let alone most of the events. I know the events are on Black Mtn as well but why didnt they think ahead and have biking on Strachan...

Anyways, heres the real post

Cypress Bike Park Report...

Posted - May 1, 2006

This summer CYPRESS MOUNTAIN will begin constructing the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Venues for the 2010 WINTER OLYMPIC Games. Over the next 2 summers will to be adding a TERRAIN AREA with SEVEN NEW RUNS for HIGH LEVEL INTERMEDIATE/EXPERT SKIERS and SNOWBOARDERS which will be accessed by a QUAD CHAIR lift. We will also begin the construction of a NEW 50,000 SQUARE FOOT DAY LODGE located between the 2 main chairlifts (The Eagles Express and Sunrise Chairs). Most of these plans are slated for completion for the 2007/2008 Winter Season and will greatly improve the recreational experiences of our guests in both the winter and summer seasons.
All of these developments take place on Black Mountain in and around the Bike Park Area. Due to these construction and access requirements, we will not open the Cypress Bike Park for the summer of 2006.

However, we do plan to continue building bike trails this summer that will enhance the varity of the trails in the bike park for the coming years.

Thanks for your support and interest in the Cypress Bike Park and we look forward to having you back on the trails with all of our new facilities in the near future.
