Here are a couple of pictures of the drive end. I assume Mission is going to reverse the orientation and place the drive at the bottom, like the current chair 2. Summit is basically the same lift as Rex at Crystal; it's three years older and may look different on the outside but the running gear is the same. While it's always sad to see another classic lift go down, I think Mission could definitely use a detachable where chair 2 is. Long ride.

Looks like a 2-in one station (a detatch and fixed chair station all in one).

That's basically what it was...Poma's first detachables consisted of the Alpha drive terminal used for fixed grips and another separate building for the detachable equipment. They also made a vault-drive version (American Flyer at Copper Mountain and Colorado at Breckenridge, others?). The return terminals were the same, minus the Alpha drive setup

I stopped by Mary Jane yesterday afternoon to check on the progress of the Summit Express removal, and it seems to be done. No sign of chairs and the load terminal was gone and already graded. Lift towers were still standing, but the cross arms and sheaves had been removed. Leads me to believe that the towers are going to be re-used. They've also started removing trees adjacent to the existing lift line as the new lift will need a wider line than before.
I will try and upload pictures tonight when I get home, just have to figure how to shrink them.

Will they have to reinforce them to accomodate the extra weight?

Shouldn't, if the original foundations are still sound. It's the same steel regardless of whether it's a double or a sixpack. We put a quad on old double towers when we rebuilt Baker's C-2.

here are some shots of the old chair:

i also read that they are going to keep the towers and reuse them for the new lift. most of the time, towers are designed with such high safety factors that they can support the loads from greater chairs.
this is the cinch express at beaver creek (CTEC-Garaventa). it uses old doppelmayr towers from the pre-existing triple chair that was there.

No reinforcement is needed for the towers. Beaver Creek has up graded two triples to HSQ Strawberry park and Cinch I have not found out yet if the larkspur bowl lift will reuse the old tubes or if the line location has changed and thus new everything will know on the 14th. Tubes are the same for most lifts now crossarms are an other story because one you need a wider gage and two the forces act on the beam in bending which most materials, including steel, are not as efficient.
