I built HO layouts as a kid, the sets are still somewhere at my folks' house. I'm still interested in them, mostly as an alternative to single-occupant vehicles clogging up freeways and arterials and polluting. (Of course, I drive myself to work every day so I should shut up now.) Leadville has a twelve-mile section of the old Colorado and Southern Railway which used to connect to Frisco, Buena Vista, and others; it runs as a senic ride all summer long. The depot is two blocks from my house so I hear the whistle all the time. They have an old 2-8-0 steam engine set up in the parking lot.

Here are some MSTS Screen Shots, they aren't the best quality but it shows some cool add-ons.

This shot involved several Mods. It's on the standard Marias Pass Route with an altered winter texture to give a more accurate representation of Montana Snow. Sky Conductor 2 provided the weather textures to make it look like a true blizzard. The Train is a CP MLW630 which i found and installed.

Taken in the same area of Montana as the last picture this shot has the same locomotives but in CN livery. The Coal hoppers are an addition and are CN stock. Again the sky textures were provided my Sky Conductor 2. The amount of diesel fumes are a pretty accurate in my mind because i've seen many photos of older ALCO style locomotives which create quite a cloud.

North East Corridor but with a new, more accurately modeled Acela trainset. This is also one of my favourite sky textures. Other trainsets have been modified to be modeled more accurately than the Train-Sim programmers managed. On noteable example is the Slope of the Nose of the Dash 9s.

Well I decided to re-install the game and play some with some of the mods I have downloaded, and to my surprise, I have lost disk 1. I have disk 2 but not disk 1. So I figured I would look around today and buy a new copy (cant be much more than $20 now) and to another surprise, the game is no longer being offered by distributors... WTF? So I decided to look online and sure enough most places are out of stock and/or are saying the title is no longer available.

The Target near me still has it available and it's only $20. But since you have disk 2 and not 1, all you need is a burned copy of disk one to install it since you need disk 2 to play the game. So I could burn you a copy when I have time and mail it to you.

This is from the old Colorado and Southern Railway. It sits at the depot for the Leadville, Colorado, and Southern senic ride two blocks down from my house. The LC&S runs twice a day all sumer from Leadville up to the Climax Mine and back, around 25 miles total. All that's left of the C&S tracks are the mainline and the yard in town, so there's no place to turn the train around. It backs up to Climax, then comes down forward.

Speaking of Trains, this happened in Trail @ Teck Cominco about a month ago (10 minute drive from here). You can see the engines on their side on the far side of the corner in the tracks. The bridge in the middle is over a 4 lane highway - and those pipes you see contain all sorts of deadly chemicals. Both were left unharmed.

How did the engines end up on the other side of the bridge than the cars? What road was this?

My guess is that when the train derailed, one of the cars also lifted the back locomotive off of the tracks. When the train was making the turn, the weight of the partially derailed locomotive finally gave, pulling the other engines down with it. However, I don't see any track or tie damage of where the locomotive would have been scampering along the tracks.

Very strange!

Maybe some sabotage at play? If the train doesn't derail at this spot, we have another spot just ahead.

The train lost its brakes (according to the news) How the two engines and one car made it over to the other side is beyond me.. I forgot I had this shot too.

Well, I am currently in Paris, France. I think it is only right to post some pics of the Paris Metro! I am actually a huge fan of trains. Almost as much as lifts. I have MSTS and a lot of add-ons. Today I took these pictures. Sadly, I have no pictures of their newest train cars on Line #1. The newest cars have rubber tires and they are very quiet and extremely smooth! There are some older trains on the lines that have rubber tires, but they are a bit older and slightly more run-down. It is a very cool subway and elevated system. There are a few abandoned stations that I noticed the other day on one of the lines. It was very cool to see a non-functioning subway station!

Anyways, here are the pictures: (sorry about the blurriness and lighting)

Reminds me when I was there in 2003. I "fell in love" with subways then and have been intrigued with them ever since. Currently the easiest one for me to frequent is the Montreal Metro which is a much similar metro to the Paris Metro, just much much smaller and entirely on rubber tires. Only other differences are that for most trains there are no door alarms to signal doors are closing and the metro makes three little chord noises when it pulls out of a station.

Here's another that lets you hear it a little better:

Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

I saw a video on youtube of a train hitting a empty bus at about 40mph. it set the bus flying like it was a piece of ash. The impact didn't even phase the train.

While on the subject of subways, did anyone know that Cincinnati, OH has an abandoned subway system? The sad thing is that it was almost complete when it was abandoned due to rising costs.

It was Chicago or New York that had a complete 2ft. gauge subway systum. Used for when they were building the sewer systum I think. Its still there after 100 or so years! I read this in TRAINS or CLASSIC TRAINS, it was a vary good artical.
