Since we seem to have a lot of people interested in transit on this forum, i was wondering if anyone is interested in trains?

I basically grew up watching trains. My cabin is only a short walk from the Canadian National Transcontinental Mainline, so i got to see my fair share of these beasts as a little kid. Now as i look back it's fun to now know a lot more about how they operate and such. Even to this day, when i hear a train horn i run down to where i can see the tracks. I even own stocks in CN.

As we've come to discuss Flight Simulator in other topics I also wonder, is there anyone out there who has Train Simulator. I bought it way back when it came out and have since accumulated over 5 GB of add-ons and mods.

My personal Favourite is the Via rail package

To start a topic up feel free to answer any or all of these questions:

Do you like trains?

What made you start liking them?

Do you have Train sim?

What's your favourite Add-on for Train sim?

Trains are actually my next favorite thing after lifts. I have always been a fan of these massive pieces of machinary.

I'm not really sure what got me into liking trains, but I have always liked them since I was a tiny dude.

Yes I have train sim and I have got all my add ons from train-sim.com. I don't have a lot since I have dial up and it takes a while to download all the good stuff. I have the CORP route and a few others from Colorado.

I always liked trains, starting with my brio train set. I still set up my electric train around the christmas tree every year, even if I don't actually run it. When I read the polar express as a little kid, that planted this image in my head of trains always being a fun experience.

I think train-sim.com has the best stuff for the price (free), but it's kind of a pain trying to get into the site since there can only be so many people on there at once and paying members always have priority over other people. I tend to do my downloading in the early morning or at night.

I got to know the F5 key pretty well at times when trying to get on to that page.

If railroad is anything like transport tycoon then i must say it would be fun to play.

I have Railroad Tycoon 2 and that game was pretty fun, but really hard too. I never really understood the whole stock system when i was young so I always ended up doing bad later in the game. I thought about buying Railroad Tycoon 3 but it looks so kidish, the same type of thing happened with Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

Big rail fan here. Mostly with high speed passenger/subway/monorail.

Montreal's Metro is my favourite urban system. De L'Eglise and Radisson make me weak.

I don't have anything related to trains, but I went to Japan and there were a lot of trains there. The bullet trains are amazing. It got a bit of bad publicity after the recent accident, but the thing is, there isn't a lot of chioce as far as transportation goes for the Japanese, the trains are pretty common. I think it was bad judgement by the driver.

I'm a model railroader in O scale and am working at a slower pace then I'd like but still working at finishing my layout. I've done some stuff with Train Sim but don't like it as much as say flight sim. Rail road Tycoon 2 is probbally one of my two favorite tycoon games along with AIRLINE Simulation. I was once pretty good at RRT2 but haven't played it in a while.

I have always been into trains. When I was little, my parents always took me to ride the tourest railoroads with steam locomotives. it was awesome.

As far as the computer, I have trainsim although i have not played it recently. I used to be obsessed with RRT2, but have not played it since middle school.

The New Hope & Ivyland RR runs through my town. They run a steam locomotive and several diesels. I am very fortunate, as I scored a summer job there. Since i'm only 17, I can't work in Operations, but hopefully they will like me enough to keep me after the summer and let me move to working in the shop/running trains.

Trains are a regular part of my week. I think I have pretty much always been interested. I remember as a kid there was a place at the mall that had a big model railroad and I always thought it was the coolest thing ever. I've ridden steam in both Williams, Az and Felton, Ca. My house is about a quarter mile from a local branch running up to the cement factory (runs coal) and comes monday, wednesday and fridays. For about a year now we hop on and ride it a little ways and its pretty fun. Cameron rode it with us during the summer and that was pretty exciting. It is a UP branch but was once SP so it still runs SP GP-38's in the Souther Pacific colors which is pretty cool. It runs around 8 miles an hour except to get speed for the final grade to Hanson.

I used to play train simulator but I never really found it that fun. I would like to get railroad tycoon just because I played it when I was little and liked it a lot. I had probably about a gig of ad-ons for train sim but when I got my new computer I didn't reinstall it.

My friend's uncle loved trains so much that he started to build his own private railroad hoping one day to buy a used locomotive and put it on the tracks. However, he never got very far and was only able to install about 300 feet of track. The railroad was standard gauge so I presume things started to add up pretty quickly buying track and railroad ties.

I've always liked trains too. I used to have one of those wood and plastic train sets when I was little. I don't have any of the computer games, and we only get Florida East Coast (FEC) freight trains and the occasional Amtrak Metroliner passing through. There was talk of building a bullet train here to connect Miami, West Palm, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville, which would have been awesome, but it fell through
