These pictures were taken last wednesday, the 23rd of March. About 6 feet of snow had fallen over the week and it was a bit heavy and with about 2 feet overnight the lower mountain (Kodiak and Grizzly lifts) were closed. I did manage to get a few pictures of the lifts but it was cold and snowing and windy and my hands didn't like it much. As far as their lift system goes it isn't really all that interesting from what I saw. They have 7 Riblet doubles, all of which were installed in the late 70s. All on the frontside are bottom vault drives with counterweight tensioning at the top. Kodiak and Grizzly are top vault drives and as far as the tensioning goes im sure its fairly normal riblet counterweights. Hibernation on the backside is a top drive/tension riblet double with bulwheel loading at the bottom. This lift is their only unique lift. The other two lifts; Kuma and Pooh are 80's Black Box top drive yans.

First off is Bear Chair, a fairly flat lift halfway then it gets a bit steep near the face. I'm not sure if the lift has run in awhile as it is getting burried and the top chairs are missing their seats.

Lift Length: - 3300'
Vertical: ---- 750'

The drive bulwheel with Kuma in the background:

The drive and loading. Note how burried that vault drive is:

A liftline shot. It runs parallel with Kuma:

Hibernation is a fairly unique Riblet lift. The bulwheel loading is unlike anything I've seen in a 60s Riblet chair.

Lift Length: - 4600'
Vertical: ---- 950'

The loading and return terminal:

The top terminal with 90' counterweight in the shack to the right:

Last of my pictures is Pooh Bear Chair. It is shorter than Hibernation with about 100 less vertical.

The top drive terminal:

The loading/return terminal:
Attached File  pooh_2.jpg (40.25K)
Number of downloads: 23

A shot up the liftline:

Well thats all I have. The lower mountain lifts are boring so I didnt take any pictures of them, plus it was cold

Anyways if I ever go back I'll get more pictures but don't count on that happening anytime soon, Kirkwood is a lot better mountain in my opinion.

Thanks for the photos! I always get a kick out of seeing the lifts with their turnarounds way up in the middle of nowhere.

If it were clear the returns for Pooh and Hibernation would look pretty neat. There is a huge valley behind them and its really nice but it wasnt possible to see.

Hibernation is cool, I have never seen a lift like that before. I really like the top station the way it is set-up.
