  • Interests:yo, my name is Christian, and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (Berkeley ....sort of) skiing is what I do best, and I love the mountains. Of course I love skilifts too, which is why I'm here. I'd like to learn more about them and maybe work in the Ski industry later on in life.<br /><br />Let it snow.

after riding up the Gondola at heavenly, I first realized how ugly the resort is during the summer. When you first come over the hill on the gondola, you see the run right under the tamarack chair, and it is completely lined up with dead lumber, as if they did not have anywhere to put them, so they just left all the trees in the run. It is beyond me why anyone would want to pay $20 to ride the gondola up and look at the garbage-filled runs.

Anyone have any imput for the best or worst looking summer resorts?

Right now, because the mountain has barely any snow, I'd have to nominate Grouse Mountain...It looks like a dump. Currently they are in Hybrid mode; some winter activities(skiing)and some summer activities(Grizzly Bear Habitat) are offered. During full summer operations, with green grass and all the snow melted. it looks pretty nice

Beaver Creek is pretty clean and senic during the summer. Ajax (Aspen Mountain) has great views but the mountain is criscrossed with old mining roads and so isn't the prettiest.

I've only been to Kirkwood and Squaw in the summer and neither were that great. Squaw has wildflowers in the beginner bowl so thats nice and kirkwood is just brown. Im guessing some grass grows early in the summer but later its all dead. The midwest resorts that turn all green and look like a golf course are pretty nice.

Your right Tyler Solitude is really nice and in all honesty most of the Utah resorts and all of the Cottonwood Canyon resorts are very nice looking during the summer mounths.

Breck looks fairly nice in the summer but like Ajax it is crossed with mining and access roads and at higher altitudes grass doesnt grow too well but wild strawberries are in abundance.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Telluride is also really nice in the summer along with Crested Butte.

When I was at Ajax this past summer, I didn't really that many old mine roads and the ones I did see all had gravel and were still in use by Apsen Skiing Company.

Guardsman Pass from Park City to Big Cottonwood Canyon (Solitude and Brighton), right when you get over the hump to look down towards Big Cottonwood Canyon is a really nice view. Wish I had a pic. Always amazes me that there are a couple houses up there. The first part, behind PCMR and DV, isn't much though. This road is closed in the winter, as it crosses over several DV runs

there aren't too many ski areas ive been to that i would consider ugly in the summer. most are pretty good about picking up litter and controlling erosion and whatnot.

Like cameron suggested, Crested Butte is really quite special in the summer.

From what I've seen from the Doppelmayr World Books, there are a few lifts over in Europe that have a glass fence/wall to protect them from wind. It's pretty cool looking since there are colored panes of glass in it.

Here is a picture of one Bud, it's the only one I could find at the moment. The one of the colored panes of glass I believe is in one of my other World Books which I don't have right now.

Is this the type of setup you were looking for?
