How do you do that?

Skate up to lift, reach up, grab a poma bar and stick it between your legs, and get wierd  looks from people going up !

The lift in question isn't intended to be used both ways, but there is a section with only a shallow gradient and people quite often do it when that lift is on and there's a head wind on the way down.

More interestingly there is a T-bar that serves what is marked as beginner terrain on the Trail map on my local hill and the steepest section of the tow track is actually downhill  (on the way up the lift) and this is the source of huge hillarity for good skiers/boarders watching the ensuing carnage when unsuspecting beginners hit the downhill streach!

PS Sorry for going way off topic.

Patrol escorts people down chair 6 sometimes. I have seen it at least a dozen times. A patroller goes down with the person and they put the skis across their laps.

Things have changed since I worked there, then. As for the skis across the lap thing, that's SOP at most ski areas.
