Steepest downloading chairs

heavenly_romer's Photo heavenly_romer 27 Mar 2005

Who thinks they know of the steepest/scariest downloading chair. The only chair I have downloaded is gunbarrel at heavenly, and that goes straight down a double black run.

There's a scenic lift at Lake Compounce, CT that was just awesome. Ride around the bullwheel and the breakover at the top was just amazing!

That chair must go really slow if you ride around the bullwheel

Peak chair at Whistler. When you leave the station at the top you head out over a pretty significant cliff. Feels like your falling into space. Come up and try it this summer.

Do they run the Peak Chair during summers for sightseeing?
Also, how are the zip lines? Are they worth the money?

And Yes, I know I am going :offtopic:

On a beautiful summer, sunny day, yes for $98 cdn it is worth it. I've done it twice, and both times i've enjoyed myself. They Zip tours last close to 3 hrs, and I think it's five...maybe six ziplines you get to ride.

I can't think of any lifts that i have downloaded that are steep.

Gunbarrel isn't really all that steep. The reason that face is double black is because of the moguls.

The steepest I've ridden is J1 at June. You get on and its pretty scary after those breakovers. You have to ride it to really appreciate it :)

I took Lizz up there once during the winter and she wan't quite enthused about those last breakover towers. And that was going up...

Steepest lifts I've downloaded are chairs 4 and 5 at Baker. There was a section where the work chair nearly touched the halo (C-5) and where the lighter mechanic had to lie flat while the heavier person got way on the inside to avoid hitting the tower number (C-4).

How often and under what conditions would a regular skiier or snowboarder have to download? The only time I can think of seeing people heading down, is employees.

At heavenly, to get down to the California lodge, there are three options: Go down the face (pretty steep and often extremely icy), go down the roundabout trail (narrow switchbacks), or download gunbarrel. There are enough people at heavenly for all three options to have a fair amount of people.

The peak chair will be open this summer for the first time. They may put cabins from the creekside gondola on it. I don't believe a final decisison has been made.

I haven't tried the Zip-Trek, but by all accounts its great.

Reasons to download. Too tired to ski, Injured, Broken equipment, No ski out, etc.

I guess you could also have to download if you space out and take a lift to terrain that you could never make it down. There may also be reasons for in the summer so you don't have to hike down.

Speaking of the Creekside Gondola. I really wish that they would open that lift for summer operation; add some bike trails...that would be great - then you could either head down creekside on your bike or head over to Garbanzo and the village Gondola...I think that would really work, maybe in a few years?

Is there any kind of lift that is unsafe to download?
