Holiday Valley

My friend Dave and I visited Holiday Valley this weekend, on Sunday and Monday. The weather was pretty bad, but the awesome terrain, location, and experience that was Holiday Valley more than made up for it. Crowds were absolutely minimal, no waits for anything, and we got some seriously awesome boarding in. :D Here's some shots!

Here's me with the awesome mardi gras xpress! Lovin' the sans-seriffed justified text.

Here's Dave on the mardi gras xpress.

A shot up the lift line.

Here's the upper terminal. The carriers all said Garaventa-CTEC, and it had a kind of grip design I'd never seen before. Really simple and visible, I think I like it the most from a mechanical standpoint out of the ones I've seen so far.

Here's the base terminal of the other detachable. This one said it was by Doppelmayr-CTEC.

A shot down the lift line...

Super-speed chair! :P

Posted Image
I think it's either a misplaced hovercraft, or the world's shortest monorail.

Posted Image
Just another kind of lift...

Way off in the distance, that's the lift line for the mardi gras xpress. Holiday Valley wraps around and in on itself, which is cool!

Those grips you're seeing are the regular CTEC grips that were used in the 90s. Doppelmayr merged with GaraventaCTEC to make DoppelmayrCTEC in 2002, so lifts after that have DoppelmayrCTEC stickers, but it's basically the same company. The chairs on all those lifts are not the standard CTEC chairs, but rather the Garaventa chairs that were used on some CTEC lifts

That has to be the worse color scheme ever used on any Stealth 3

Time for lunch. Dave makes a mess everywhere and ruins everything!

"This tastes like cardboard!"

Back to the slopes. The Wall sure is steep...! This was the only run we didn't try, I think.

Posted Image
Now we're on to Monday. Here's an overview of the base lodge.

Back on the mardi gras xpress.

Posted Image
After my last experience trying glades, I opted not to go down here. :) Dave gave it a go though.

I loves they fast curvey trailizzle.

I am running out of captions.

The hovercraft-monorail lift (good name, it does sorta look like that) is also a CTEC lift with Garaventa chairs. I don't know the name of that terminal design, and I've never seen it anywhere else. You must not get too many CTEC lifts where you live
Looks like a nice little place

One of the other lodges (there were like 18).

Posted Image
We had lunch up in hurr.

Posted Image
We got so hammered, that I tried skiing, and this is what happened.

Posted Image
This lift was pretty steep and we kept making use of it while going down this one really fun long steep trail, which was super-fast!

Dave calls everyone he knows, and tells them how awesome Holiday Valley is.

So anyway, that is all the photos. Good times. :)

I see. Any other areas in New York you'd recomend?

Dave and I considered going to Kissing Bridge, but based on the reviews we read, going to Holiday Valley for 2 days instead sounded like the better choice.

That hovercraft-monorail lift i think is a bottom drive version of the Gemini. I think it was a custom job for HV because it's a fixed grip with a 2500pph cap.

I'm not quite sure I follow... do you mean that a lift as small as it typically wouldn't have such a nice looking drive terminal?

Dunno which one that is. :) In general if I don't take pictures of something, I didn't find it interesting enough to warrant a photo, or the moment wasn't right. Sorry!
