I wonder why they didn't put new chairs on the lift when they rebuilt it.

cuz it's cost some $$$$$$ to put new chairs on. I think that chair had somewhere around 80 to 90 chairs on it when it was @ breck. BTW that was the first chairlift i was ever went on. :) other then the rope tow. but i don't count that as a chairlift

They are everywhere... From what I remember, the Gondola at Northstar is also chain-driven.

The old Gondola at PCMR was driven through the terminal by lifties pushing the cabins.

The chain system is used on almost all detachables in Québec, probably because they are old.

I think only Doppelmayr made this system.

But, how they accelerate?

poma uses the same caydence chains in their older lifts. vail's doppelmayr hsqs have it too since they are older.

most older gondolas have the push system in the terminals, i know that the phb/hall gondola like you suggested at park city had this. also, if anyone remembers the von roll gondola at disney world it also had this system.

The chain system really only carries the carrier (chair) around the countour and then drops it off at the brake rail which then tires which are above accelerates the lift. On top of the grip is a flexible plastic grip . Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum. :)

P.S. The glossary also has some useful info: http://skilifts.org/glossary.htm

The tires that accelerate the lift.

The Banff Gondola, Still uses the manual "pushed by operators mode". It's a PHB Hall built in 1958. it was retrofitted by Garaventa in 1998, with new cabins.
