MOUNTAIN IMPROVEMENTS

COMING 2005-2006 SEASON…

Village Express Lift
The existing Fanny Hill chairlift will be replaced with a six-passenger lift named Village Express. A speedy 9.5-minute ride gets you to the top of Sam's Knob. Village Express has a mid-way unloading station for those wishing to access beginner terrain or lodging via Dawdler. Village Express accommodates 2,800 people per hour, is 10,057 feet long and has 2,174 vertical feet of rise.

Mall Connector Cabriolet
A fast and fun aerial connection between existing Snowmass Village Mall and new Base Village connects commercial centers and integrates conference activities. This two-minute, open-air gondola ride (think of it as an elevator on cables between two retail centers) provides uphill or downhill connectivity to a one-of-a-kind Snowmass Village complex. Cabins are six-passenger. The Cabriolet offers lower Fanny Hill skiing and snowboarding access for children's learn-to-ski/snowboard programs.

COMING 2006-2007 SEASON...

Elk Camp Gondola
Enjoy spectacular views and a relaxing ride aboard the new 8-passenger, high-speed gondola. Traveling from Base Village to Elk Camp Meadows in 8.5 minutes, the gondola provides access to Elk Camp, Alpine Springs and Burnt Mountain areas of Snowmass. Comfortable cabins transport 2,800 people per hour. Elk Camp Gondola is 8,560 feet long, with 1,360 vertical feet of rise.

Elk Camp Meadows
A major on-mountain activity center at the top of the gondola includes a beginner’s park with a six-acre protected learning area on gentle terrain. The mid-mountain location gives beginning skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to ride the gondola and experience fabulous views. The beginner’s park includes a detachable quad chairlift and surface lift to help make learning a new sport much easier. If their skills haven't progressed far enough to ski or ride down the easy green trail from Elk Camp, the gondola is available to take them down safely and comfortably. Elk Camp Meadows includes a wide variety of winter and summer activities, including skating pond, ACES nature tours, Tube Town, snowshoeing, mountain biking, snow biking, sleigh rides, Frisbee golf and climbing wall.

Lift Replacement/Change (coming seasons TBD)
New lifts will replace the Wood Run, Fanny Hill, Assay Hill, Funnel, and Naked Lady lifts.

Summer Trails & Activities
Much of the summer activity that currently takes place at Sam's Knob will be relocated to Elk Camp Meadows. Several new biking and hiking trails will be constructed, pending U.S. Forest Service approval, in the upper reaches of Elk Camp. Other activities taking place are horseback riding, fishing, camping (pending U.S. Forest Service approval), nature centers, climbing walls, trampoline bungies, paintball, mountain boarding - the list goes on!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SNOWMASS BASE VILLAGE

COMING 2006-2007 SEASON...

Children’s Center
An exciting new children's center enriches a child's mind, body and spirit while sharing a common appreciation and respect for the pristine Colorado environment. The 25,000-square-foot facility offers care and programs for children two months to 18 years. Interactive interior design includes climbing structures, reading caves, sound systems, mobiles, aquariums and more. The center is conveniently located at the base of Fanny so families arriving via the snow from slopeside lodging have easy access. A private, on-snow learning area includes two 100-foot-long Magic Carpet-type lifts and immediate access to the Cabriolet. Kids and teens will have numerous nighttime offerings.
Retail, Restaurants & Nightlife (2006 - 2009)
Well worth the 25-year wait - you no longer have to trek to Aspen to find your spot. Eleven new restaurants and bars, live outdoor music in the new events plaza, two-story bar with a huge patio and deck areas, indoor music, DJs and dancing.

Conference Space
With 15,000 square feet of conference space in Building 2A, including a 3,200-square-foot room that will hold more than 300 people for a cocktail party, the new facility brings a much-needed, large-gathering component to Base Village.

COMING 2007-2008 SEASON...

Village Arrival/Transportation Center
The main arrival center for Base Village is complete with guest services, storage lockers, restrooms, changing rooms, food and beverage, and more. For lodging guests, central check-in services for the entire village are located here, along with bellmen and other services. An underground terminal can accommodate seven transit buses at one time, with direct access to the lobby and Base Village Plaza. A parking garage accommodates more than 600 vehicles for day skiers, residents, village guests, commercial visitors and reserved spots. The center is within easy walking distance of the Elk Camp Gondola and Village Express Lift.

Community Aquatic Center
A 30,000-square-foot amenity includes a zero-edge kids’ pool, hot tubs, lap pool, water slides, children’s areas and on-site food and beverage - the aquatic center will be a major village attraction for guests and residents, and a new hot spot for après. The aquatic center is available to the public for a fee established by the Town of Snowmass Village.

Flagship Hotels & Condominiums
The new Base Village includes a total of more than 600 residential units available for purchase, comprised of 359 condominiums, the Westin Snowmass Village Resort with 229 rooms and suites, and The Little Nell at Snowmass with 32 luxury suites. Aspen/Snowmass Hospitality will manage the rental operations of the village, including airport transportation, centralized check-in and concierge services. With just one phone call, guests will be able to confirm room reservations, as well as ski/snowboard school lessons, equipment rentals and lift tickets. Please visit www.basevillageatsnowmass.com to learn more about ownership.

pulled from the Apsen Snowmass Site. I look forward to the new stuff :)

Wow, they really are putting in a lot of stuff. This is quite a large expansion compared to some other projects.

I'm assuming the lifts will be Leitner-Pomas. Anyone care to confirm or deny?

The cabins on the gondola are going to be CWA Omega 8s. They already have one sitting at the bottom of the Fanny Hill lift.

I've read that the cabriolet will not be open air, it will actually be enclosed.

That's odd, are they just going to have no seats? I'd like to see pictures once they get it up and running whenever they do.

I found out this weekend that there are actually two different makes of cabins on display at Snowmass. They have a CWA omega 8 at the base of the fanny hill lift and it is presumably for the elk camp gondola. In the Snowmass mall area has a 6 or 8 passenger diamond cabin on display that I was told would probably go on the mall cabriolet/gondola. From what I could find out they will probably both be a traditional gondola design but no one could tell me which cabins will be on each gondola or if both will be the same and they are still trying to decide which cabins they will use.

It also could be that L-P is trying to promote its Diamond cabins since every time a resort buys CWA cabins for its gondolas, Doppelmayr/Garaventa is making money.

Yeah that makes since too. I keep hearing that Aspen is replacing their cabins soon, I hope so because the doors on several of the cabins I was on this weekend wouldn't close fully and there was a 3-5" gap.

trtam - Lift-World lists 357 six packs in the world. Most of those are over in Europe, but there's a handful in America too

PCMR McConkeys
PCMR Payday
PCMR Bonanza
PCMR Silverlode
Mammoth Eagle Express
Moonlight Basin Six Shooter
Keystone Ruby Express
Breck Quicksilver
Breck Independence
Copper Super Bee
Durango Purgatory Village
Mt. Rose NW Magnum 6
Schweitzer Stella
Crystal Chinook
Crystal Forest Queen
Squaw Far East
Squaw Headwall
Squaw Gold Coast
Alpine Meadows Summit Six
Willamette Pass Eagle Peak Accelerator
Mt. Washington BC Hawk
Silver Star Comet
Lake Louise Top of the World

That's all I could think of in the West, with some help from Lift-world. 24 on that list, maybe I'm missing some obvious ones too, along with all the Eastern ones. So you can see, there's a bunch of 'em. Anyone want to add others?

Blue Mountain in ontario has 4.

Also i'm not a fan of the half length windows on those Diamond Cabins. It looks way better as one solid panel.

I am guessing that they may chose to use the diamond cabins on the mall gondola as the display cabin doesnt have ski racks on it. The CWA at the base does have ski racks on is so it may be for the elk camp gondola. I dont know if it is signifigant of a difference to know which is going to be used on which but that seems to make sense.
