Hello All ! This is my first time in a forum....ever! I have been using skilifts.org for a bit now and I've decided to use the forum as means of my research.

Does anyone know which manufacturers are still out there making chair lifts? Besides Doppelmayr Garaventa and Leitner POMA? I know of a few others but most of them have been bought out by these two, as we all know. I am looking specifically for companies that develop chair lifts (not gondola's and trams) and I am looking at it World-Wide.

Are these guys still around?
Bartholet metallbau?
Rowena?
Rudkin Wiley?
Riblet?

Cheers

Riblet is out of business, but a company called Superior Tramway, also located in Spokane, WA took their stock (by my understanding).

As for the other guys, I have no clue.

Anyone on the board confirm the others are DOA or still in business?

I think your best bet is to ask the members on the alpin-forum.com site since they know a lot more about those small European manufacturers than what we do. :)

Alright - I just posted it....but I couldn't figure out what each section I was filling out meant. So by mistake I put that it was from a chair lift manufacturer?? oops.. Is there a place where there is english? Unfortunately I can't read that language!

I think there is an english section at the bottom of the forum but a lot of the non english speaking people on that forum don't visit it.

These are the other companies I was told that operated in Europe. The only thing I know about them besides Dopp and Poma is that Skirail started out with Yan's designs before making their own.
- Doppelmayr et Garaventa
- Leitner et Poma ,
- Graffer et CCM en Italie,
- Gimar Montaz Mautino en France,
- Skirail en France, filiale de Poma.

Rowema is still in business (see www.rowema.ch) that's where our Mueller service bulletins come from.

Superior Tramway is separate from Riblet, although they do forge clips and bend steel for replacement carriers. Riblet's tools, forms, dies, blueprints, et cetera, are now held by a company called Tram Support, Inc.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to create another forum for this...please let me know if I should

I have another question on top of the manufacturers still around.....does anyone know how large of a market share (percentage-wise) each company holds in the world market of chairlift manufactuers? I'm looking for a lead in this direction anyway....I've been searching around and the closest I got was Doppelmayr with 37.5 % of the market when they were in 40 Countries, although that was about 5 years ago and that has DEFINATELY changed since then...

I know that Doppelmayr-Garaventa has lifts in 75 Countries and L-P has lift in 69 Countries.

So basically, does anyone know where abouts I might find more information on this?

I would say that Doppelmayr/Garaventa has about 62% of the market share these days, just because L-P is mostly in France, Italy and North America. Doppelmayr/Garaventa has far more market share just because it has so many branches across the world. Also, the French resorts are pretty much already built up so new lift installations will probably level off pretty soon. This will also cause Doppelmayr to get more market share because L-P lift installations will drop.

Sounds about right... Where did you get the 62% from? I would think that Doppelmayr would have something on their web site but I coudn't find anything further than the amount of countries their located in.

After checking out the world books from 94-04, it's crazy how many new lifts have gone up in Austria, USA and Italy (from Doppelmayr's books)... well, I suppose not really because they are replacing some really old lifts...and Doppelmayr is located in that region :) but you know what I mean! That being said, I agree with your statement of 'leveling' off soon...

The 62% was just a guess I made, it could be higher though.

If you look back in time, statistically Leitner sells more lifts worldwide than anyone.

Where are you looking back to? I am interested in finding some real numbers, percentages and facts...Do you have any information on where I might find this?

That list isn't correct. <_<

I personally know that there were more lifts installed in North America than what's listed on that list. For example, the two Doppelmayr CTEC HSQs at Beaver Creek arn't listed, along the new Vista Express at Mt. Hood Meadows. Doppelmayr CTEC also installed 3 HSQs in Utah.

So as you can see, there is a lot of stuff missing from that list.

Yes I agree. (swear I saw the BC lifts on the list prior to posting)
We helped on that project along with lifts in PC and Alta.
Vista Express at Hood is a Leitner/Poma.

Score looks kinda tied up huh?

My originally response to this post was relating to a time years ago when we built the Leitner at Sol Vista. That year Leitner (not with Poma then) installed 75 lifts worldwide! Unbelievable numbers.

Yea, I knew Vista was an L-P, but I guess I didn't clarify it since I was just listing lifts that wern't mentioned on that list.
