In summary, there is going to be a CTEC 6-pack replacing Zephyr (which is going to be renamed "Blazing Zephyr"; where do they pull a lousy name like that from?!! They must have consultants from San Francisco! :---: ) They are going to move the current Zephyr lift to serve the chutes (and call it "Chuter" GAG!!!!!). I like new lifts, but with names like these, they might as well paint the whole lift purple and instate a new design for the chairs that uses triangles instead of squares. They will also open a previously closed bowl on the northwest side of the mountain. Their vertical will be increased to 1800 feet.

Blazing Zephyr Lift Statistics:
Manufacturer: Dopplemayer CTEC Inc. Salt Lake City, Utah
Chairlift Type: High-speed, six-passenger detachable
Total Chairs: 50 initial - final design number 75
Vertical Rise: 1,303 ft
Slope Length: 3,938 ft
Capacity (pph): initial 2400pph, final design 3600 pph
Inaugural Season: 2004 / 2005
Line Speed: 1100 fpm, estimated ride time 3.58 minutes
Chair Weight: 1000 lbs
Initial sequence: Nine seconds at 2400 pph
Design sequence: Six seconds at 3600 pph

The Chutes Statistics:
Skiable Acres 200
Vertical feet 1500
Names Trails 16
Double Black Runs 9
Black Runs 7
Access Gates 8
Exit Lift (quad) 1

Zephyr is the name of a cove at Tahoe. The image of a very fast cove puzzles me.

Wow...I've never really liked the Northwest Magnum 6 name, but the 'Blazing Zephyr'...whatever. They said it's 'tenatively named'

But that pales in comparison to "Chuter"...

I mean, c'mon, it serves double black terrain, and yet they give it this attempting-to-be-cute name?

Mt Rose now has just about everything you want to know about "The Chutes" up on their website including maps, trail info, avalanche control and info on the Chuter Chair.

I'll finish beating this dead horse...
A zephyr is by definition a light breeze. Thus 'Blazing Zephyr' is an oxymoron. How about 'The Hurricane'?

Oh...

I just thought they named the lift after a cove on Lake Tahoe. That makes much more sense. But you are right, it is an oxymoron.

Yea i saw that somewhere else as well John. Im guessing it is named after the cove, but they should have looked that up. Some fun terrain next year though.

Do you guys think that the wind that you will feel blowing on you while you ride up the lift is the speed of a Zephyr, not actually the speed of the lift? So the name works if you think about it that way, because when you do ride up a high-speed lift, there is a light breeze. :)

Mount Rose can get some nasty winds, so, no, it is not a "zephyr".

In this sense of the word, Northstar is the only resort that would be installing a lift called "Zephyr".

Whoops, I meant in Tahoe.

But yes, Homewood would also meet the description, or Sierra, perhaps.
