Six-seater planned for Snowmass
The Aspen Times reports that the Aspen Skiing Company wants to replace a couple of older chairs providing access to the Big Burn area with a new six-person chairlift. Forest Service officials are studying the proposal and plan to complete a draft environmental analysis early next year, according to the Times.
The new lift could go in as soon as next summer, Forest Service officials said, and resort officials confirmed that the project is on a “short list” of potential projects. A Forest Service winter sports specialist said the new lift could reduce the ski area’s on-mountain footprint and enable skiers and boarders to better utilize existing terrain.

Intrawest bought Copper in 1997, and Timberline was built in 1994. Coper Mountain Resort (the old company) was going to buy a few Doppelmayrs, but then they sold out to Intrawest and now it's more the bottom line that drives lift purchases. We (the maintenance department) have lobbied for more input into lift purchases, and hopefully we will be able to tweak installations more to everyone's benefit. That doesn't necessarily mean buying Doppelmayr over Poma, just that we have ideas and needs that the guys writing the check don't always take into account.

all of the aspen resorts use either riblets or pomas (now just poma). as for other random older lifts they have a heron-poma or two, carlevario-savio double chair, and a hall double chair. so not too much diversity i guess.
if your curious i have the lift locations page done at: www.coloradoskihistory.com/chairlift.html

When did Intrawest take over Copper? If they did it for that season, I'm guessing they bought a whole bunch of Doppelmayrs because they that's all they have at their mountains really.
Actually stratton installed a ctec and mtn creek has a partek all installed under intrawest.

I'm not sure how much control Vancouver has over what the individual areas buy- that could be how Mountain Creek ended up with a Partek. Certainly we've got a history with Grand Junction, so the Doppelmayr installation is quite an anomaly.

Panorama's two new quads (1 fixed grip and one HSQ) are both Doppelmayrs.
