I'm sure your teachers will be blown away. Great work, Mike! Let us know how the presentation/projet goes (it was for Friday, right?).

Congradulations! How did you transport it to school and set it up? That must have been a bit of a challenge. :-D

Don't worry about people picking on you, espically for being so creative. If anything, they're frustrated because they haven't found something they're as good at as you!

I agree, a chairlift for a class like that would have been awesome, and if I have to do something like that for physics or mechanics, I've got one good idea. Once again, nice job.

Very nice. What kind of wire did you use for the carriers- #10, #12, baling wire vs copper, et cetera? I once tried to use #16 copper wire but as you can imagine it was too soft.

It looks like a 1970's or early 1980's Doppelmayr Double, just like the old ones at Beaver Creek and Snowbird. I'm sometime soon going to build one with parts at Radio Shack and a modeling shop and the local hardware stores. They sell motors, small cable, and oher things that would be about the same size. I also have an idea of how to craft the chairs out of wire and wood. I also know it won't be a walk in the park, more like a hike in the woods on a steep path or trail.

:cursing: Dear friend, i have to exclaim that the lift you posted isn´t yours !!! :cursing:
I know the lift and it´s builder Christian very well, the lift runs near Frankfurt/Main, Germany and is a model based on the old Girak double chairlift "Marienbergjoch" part two in Ehrwald, Austria.

On the first two attachments you can see one of my own double chairs running on Christian´s chairlift, we had done this during my last visit.
In the meantime Christian got my little Leitner skilift, had been added to his chairlift as you can see on the third attached picture.

The Girak lift had been the third one Christian had built. Some pictures of the two older ones and a short videoclip you can view on my subsite; there are many pictures of other interesting model cableways from other builders too.

http://members.aon.a...Konkurrenz.html

Besides that the towers had been formed from organ pipe sheet metal by Christian´s father who had been a church organ builder - i wish there would be such sqare koned metal profiles available on the market.
Christian uses a galvanized steel rope with 4 mm diameter and the lift scale is about 1:25.

And here is a fully functional model of a detachable two rope cableway documented, the cableway had been built by a nineteen year old italian guy besides his studies - Leitner ropeways in Vipiteno / northern Italy engaged him after they have seen his model cableway...

The Girak double (unfortunately) had not been built by me, Christian is a good friend of mine and had built this lift himself but as far as i know he has neither intention nor the time to build more lifts for customers and no thoughts about selling the lift too.
All parts had been custom made by him or his father and so the time effort is really very large until such a model chairlift is erected and running.
I have made the one "oldtime" chair for him cause we both were interested how it would look at his lift and how good my clamp model will run over his sheave batteries.
Christian uses simple sheet metal clamps, instead of him i prefer to use a more complex screwed clamp for fixing the chairs on the rope.

At our last meeting when i visited him in near Frankfurt/main we produced a "model lift forest" with his Girak and three of my own lifts in his garden as you can see on the attached videoscreenshots.

Christian´s Girak model is still a few years existing so it´s had been necessary to start a reworking of the towers.
You can see the first rebuilt tower on the new pictures here.
