I'm not sure how far I'll get with this, but I thought I'd throw it out there. :)

The haul rope engages the grip, it's 4 mm OD pneumatic tubing.

Here's a lil' sketch I did up for the system I'm building for rtlToronto/train7 in Toronto, for my friend Janey. Her module spans about 3 metres, and I'll be using 3 of these cabins in a pulse configuration. Elevation change is 36 bricks over the span.

He'res a photo of the 3S grip i found from the Alpin express. It's of much earlier design (1992) but was built by garaventa so i think it has some in common with the doppelmayr.

So how actually does the grip work? Where is the spot where haul rope will connect?

Looks to me like the haul rope is going to run in the middle of the four pegs on top of the grip. Though how it will be secured i can only guess.

It does seem somewhat loose, but I think that only Duck can answer this.

The idea was to use 4 mm OD pneumatic tubing for the load and haul rope. In terminals, I'd like to have a sheave overhead that draws the rope up out of the grip (it fits snugly - but comes out easily enough). Same thing on the departure side of the terminal, have the rope come in via an overhead sheave, pressing it into place.

Ok, thanks. Have you built a rough terminal or tower yet? How will the towers and terminal work? I'm guessing by the fixtures on the cabin that are for the support rope, but again, that is my guess and I don't know for sure. Also, when do you plan to have it finished?

Thank you Edmontonguy and Rob for the additional photos!

@ Edmontonguy,

Where is the Alpin Express located?

@ highspeedquad,

I'll be working on it more once I finish my current project. With the end of the boarding season so quickly aproaching, I find it difficult to convince myself to stay in and work on these things. 3 months of season is just way too short!

@ Mike,

I hear you on the balsa wood. I have very little patience and LEGO is a perfect medium to make detailed, mechanically complex projects in a short period of time. Programming and control is a huge bonus. So I admire that you have the mad skillz (with a z) to go through the whole process in building your lifts! Props.

The Alpin Express is located in Saas Fee Somewhere in Europe, It has Gangloff cabins.

Here's a link to an italian? page on the new 3S at Kitzbuel. This is the most detail i've seen about a 3S lift to date.

Awsome Photos

I've got a video from Doppelmayr about the construction of the Kitzbuhel lift but it's 2Gb :(
