Many resorts are now planning for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.
Here are some plans I found of Cypress Mountain. It looks like they will be hosting the snowboarding and freestyle events. The new lift line and runs are shown in that PDF file.

Also in Cypress' old master plan, there are plans for a gondola. Not sure if Boyne Canada is going to do this or not. The gondola would run up to the top of Mt. Strachan and build a new lodge.

They are not going to build a gondola. They took that out of the plan after the government said it was too much.

It seems we in BC are much more protective of our parks. There are no Yellowstone Club-style places in here because it would be politically unfeasible- the public would not allow it.

The Yellowstone Club is on private land though. I'm not sure if Canada allows land exchanges or not.

In Canada, most of the forests are on Crown land, so ski resorts have to seek permission to build.

Big Sky Montana. Three ski resorts all within a 10 minute drive.

I agree, although if the Club is on private land, they have every right to build a members-only style area... I can't remember- is Cypress in the provincial park, or does it just border on it?

Cypress is right in the middle of a provincial park.

I personally think that the gondola being cancelled is good. Its really pretty up there and if it became a tourist attraction, the top would be spoiled. Anyways, they have been clearing the area for the Freestyle Block, i have some photos and I will post them soon.
