Well, now that I've had my trivia fun I can post the rest of my pictures of Snowmass. I didn't shoot too many lifts as I was with people who don't even stop for a bathroom break. Oh, and the Cirque was skiing excellent so we didn't feel like stopping anyway :D
First up are a few shots of Big Burn's drive terminal, a unique take on the Falcon-style terminal. Probably the first integrated overhead drive detachable Poma built. Next is the Cirque's angle station. This is a lift basically identical to Storm King at Copper but built after Pomagalski returned to the older style of stick. The lift is wind powered by a small turbine located up top somewhere (it was foggy and I couldn't find it, though). Finally, the Campground lift.

The Big Burn is really interesting. Too bad that there aren't too many lifts like that. I would have liked to see it in person, the mechs, all of that stuff.

I want that terminal. It gets a bit tiring walking back and forth from the terminal down the ladder and then down the hill into the vault on the Flyer.
The drive terminal is original as far as I know. It appears to be designed on the Alpha, just turned ninety degrees and stuck on top. Coney Glade is a normal Alpha/Falcon.

I kinda like how that looks on the Big Burn lift
Why didn't they do the retrofit on the bottom terminal like their other lifts?

I wonder why they did the unique terminal, since all of the terminals that look like that are either the more common alpha/falcon or the vault drive.

Maybe Poma wanted to test something new and gave them a better deal on it?

Could be.
I looked at the bottom terminal and it appears to have weather guards on any machinery that would need it, so the roof would be extra. Plus it isn't constructed quite like the other Pomas of that vintage. I don't have a picture for comparison, but the tunnels on Big Burn don't allow for people to be inside them- the walkway is on the outside rather than the inside as it is on the Flyer, Colorado, and the others like them.

Yea, I saw that while I was there this summer. I thought about climbing up and looking around, but it was too risky and I didn't want to break the rules. I should have got some more pictures of that terminal. :(

It sure does look funky though. I wonder if the terminals were shipped over from France and if there are any like this over there?

Ours were shipped over from France; all the assembly instructions are still stuck to the terminal parts and they're written in French. Terminal Arrival dans Contour and such.

Why would being shipped over from france be any different. At the time they still made the same terminals, right?

Because the old HSQs and gondolas were shipped over from France since POMA of America wasn't designing its own high-speed lifts at the time. I was just curiuous if maybe this was on of its first, since this terminal looks very odd.

So if Poma of America got an order, they would in turn order it from Pomagalski? Or someone could just order direct?

It was made through POA but until '88 or '89 the order was sent straight to Grenoble.

Okay, alright, because I believe that was when they started making different terminals.

I am guessing but since parts of ajax express were reused on the new campground, were the tower heads reused? The carriers seem to be really far from the towers. Also was the drive system original to the Ajax?

It's possible as the towerheads are the oldest style Poma made. The sheaves are mounted on top like Doppelmayr instead of having the axle inside the box beam.
