Since Zage wanted to see some pictures of Girak's lifts, here you go. All I could find while I was over in Europe were its gondolas. The unique thing about Girak though is that it seems to build custom terminals.

Here one gondola, but I don't know the name of the reosrt though.

Here is the Magic Mountain Xpress at Hirschenkogel. I personally think this is a very unique terminal design.

Thanks Cameron. The first gondola you posted is the Hahnenkammbahn at Kitzbuhel Austria. The Hahnenkamm is a famous ski run for downhill racing.

I like the second terminal a lot. Those are great pictures. Do you happen to know when the gondolas were built? The first one has a chain cedence system, I would think that the second has a tire, but I wouldn't know. Any info on that?

Bryan, I'm curious which one you rode, because I wasn't sure if there was a funitel at Kitzbuhel Austria. I was only in this town for like 20 minutes while my family and I ate lunch.

I was refering to the Hahnenkammbahn. I didnt really pay attention to the lifts in Kitzbuhel except for the Graventa Quad with moving loading and the Single Chairs. I do know that the lift we rode out of town was a gondola with what looked like CWA cabins, that has been 7 or 8 years ago though.

How come the Hahnenkammbahn gondola (the one with red cabins) has a cadence chain and not tire turn-around?. It was only built in 1996, all lifts then had tire turn-around and the cadence chain was obsolet

These are the pictures from Lift-World. I use the last one as a background on my computer. :P

Cost saving maybe?

Maybe it had something to do with removing the cabins, adding cabins, etc, and it could be easier to do that with the cadence chain. If the one with the cadence chain was built in '96 then they difinitely had a reason, because the tire turnarounds started in the late '80's, right?

No, a tire cadence system is a lot better for removing and adding cabins and carriers, that's why it's use on all the new lifts today. I just think that Girak never invested in designing their own that early.

Ok, I didn't know, I might have been thrown off where someone said "in an active tire system it may take several laps to respace the carrier" and if they were removing the cabins a lot then it would seem that it would be difficult without a system to put them on already spaced.

I wish that we had some terminals like that here. Is Girak still in business, and if not, when did they go out of business?

I agree with highspeedquad. We need weirder terminals in my opinion

They are either still in business or were bought out by doppelmayr. I forget which.

Girak was actually bought by Garaventa around 1999.

When you say Girak-garaventa do you mean that it is just a branch of the Dopp group and they are still somewhat alive, just bought out? Or have they changed to the style of all modern Dopp gondis.

Did they make any other lifts?
