Make sure to check out the cabin video #2. Eric walked down the stairs while showing the cabins going down then he shows the storage area. :)

Another big thanks to him :)

Man, that's totally nuts!

So is the parking track like a series of S-curves? Are those powered tires in the corners to help move them along so it fills the entire storage track?

Hey Eric, who was the guy that said, "who are you sending that to, I might have to throw that camera on the ground?"

It just sounds like a mean response from a coworker.

That would of been Chris. He was telling Eric that if he took his pic he would throw the camera on the ground.

From Eric

all the tracks are downhill so the cabins are gravity fed, on the turnarounds it lifts them back up a bit, then they go down to the next conveyor

Wow, that's impressive. Do all gondolas have a station like that or something like it? Also, why were they putting the cabins in storage?

on the needles and strawberry gondolas @ snowbasin they change the # of cabins on the line. Every Friday-sunday there are 86 cabins on the line and the lift runs @ 5m/s. Monday though Thrusday there are 56ish cabins on the line and they run them @ 4.5m/s

So they were just moving about 30 cabins downstairs as opposed to all 86 of them.

So when they change the number of cabins they have to remove them all then replace however many cabins they have to have on the line? Wow, that must be a lot of work. Good thing it's automatic.

I didn't know that they changed the number of cabins @ a resort. That's interesting to me.

Eric said it takes about 30 mins to do it. It's all automated for the most part.

It's all Earl Holding! When that man does something, he does it well. I've heard that they also wash the cabins when underground so that they stay nice. There is a story that says that in order for SLC to get the 2002 Olympics they needed two things: a five star hotel and a world class downhill (none of those existed here) and Earl went ahead and took care of it with the awesome downhill at Snowbasin and the Grand America Hotel in SLC (still the only five star hotel for hours and hours).

That is pretty common for doppelmay and garaventa to do on big fancy lifts. The funitel at squaw has one, but I doubt it has ever been on line except maybe to first few days. Its black and has plush seats, music and other stuff. Its too bad resorts dont use them but they would just get trashed.
