No im not sure about this, but i believe CTEC ripped off one of the FG YAN quad chairs. CTEC has slightly altered the top portion of the frame, and the backrests if they did "barrow" the yan design.

Also, why does ctec use a different chair for their fgq's and hsq's?

I've never known why CTEC used a different chair for the HSQs than the FGQs. I like the HS chair more. The FG chairs have these really short hangers which look really disproportionate on the quads.

Didn't some of yan's top designers go to work at CTEC, or am I making this up? It's pretty early in the morning here

Both Hall and Thiokol people went to CTEC; Jan Leonard of Thiokol actually founded CTEC. Yan's guys went out on their own and formed small consulting and Yan product companies. I know of two: Ken Pearson does redesigns, consulting, and parts for older Yans; and a guy whose name I can't remember started Pol-X West, a Yan detachable grip replacement outfit. As for the chairs, it's entirely possible that CTEC copied Yan's design- Poma copied Doppelmayr's detachable carrier design (with modifications, of course) when they designed the new Omega chairs.

That sounds familiar. I wonder, then, if they contacted Yan's guys during the redesign process?

I dunno, i think the chair came out while yan was still in business. The picture of the CTEC above is from a 94 lift

The CTEC chair was out before 1993. Thats when they started using the different design for the detachable chairs.
