Hi everyone! I was just wondering how exactly detachable leitner-poma gondolas work. I am building a model one and I need this information. P.S. If you can tell me how I can access a lift maintenance shop @ copper it would be much appreciated.

Well there are two answers for this question. Leitner bought POMA and over in Europe, I think everything is now Leitner stuff, while L-P of America is still using POMA stuff.

Are you just wanting to know how the grip works or what?

The grip works just like any other Leitner-Poma grip, even the double grips, it just has a modified detach and attach ramp. As for the doors, they are opened by a wheel on the cabin that is moved by a different ramp. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but that is all I've got. I can explain the grip itself to you.

How bad do you need to access our shop? You would need a guide, we don't let random individuals wander around any of our facilities. that said, I may be able to show you around sometime.

The doors are opened and closed by that little wheel you mentioned; it is in turn pressed down or lifted up by an adjustable ramp hanging underneath the main grip compression rail. The wheel is the actuation part of a lever that moves a cable connected to the doors themselves.

I need to access it for the cable (fishing wire won't work) and an operation station.

Imagine a stiff (but flexible) rod within a sheath. That's the same idea. If you're familiar with it, LEGO's Flex system for Technic, that was used a fair bit in the late 90's, is the same thing.

I am going partially :offtopic: when I ask how the clamshell doors work at Aspen. They have a defferent design than a typical gondi.

It apears that there is a lever on the roof that opens and closes the door allong with a door activation rail.

So they work about the same way as the other gondis, just modified for the different cabins.

I probably don't need cables (what was I thinking) but I do need an operation station. I don't seem to have very many good ideas for a station.

For the haul rope use a cable, like the ones fount on some fence. I use them good, strong and just the right size in diamaiter.

Here it is the cable, not the eyelet.

I'm not sure if Boeinglover will be using that kind of cable, but it would be nice to see.

No, I'll be using copper wire courtesy of Home Depot. It will be plastic coated and will be probably white, red or blue.

All right, I'm thoroughly confused. You need to see our shop for what now?

You're asking a lot, Boeinglover. I'd start by just getting a quick tour of a lift, then keep going up. But I wouldn't know. I'd ask someone that gives tours or has been on a tour. (neither of which I qualify for.)

What type of controls do you want to see? If you're are wanting to see a lift's controls, there are pictures on this site if you look around. Check out the lift gallery of Hoodoo, OR. There should be a new Riblet control system and one of Garaventa CTEC system.
