I think it's an awsome idea and is an effective way to help people with dissabilites learn to enjoy the outdoors. No only does it give disabled persons the opertunity to enjoy sport but it also alows the public to become more aware about dissabilities in out society. More many young able bodied skiiers, learning beside a dissabled person alows stereotypes to be broken. If you've ever watched the parolympics you get a good idea about how perserveriing adaptive skiiers are and how they are just as capable as any able bodied skiier.

I agree, I think that its great that everyone is able to get out on the snow and have the same feeling that I do every time I go skiing.

Not at all. The only time that it bothers me when they slow/stop the chair is when it is for someone doing something stupid.

No it doesn't. Unlike a case where a beginner skiier has ended up in the wrong line or someone has fallen, it is not an adaptive skiier's fault if they cause the lift to slow. It's simply a fact that able bodied skiiers need to live with and it should not be a issue.

I have never seen an adaptive skier slow or stop the lift. But it's cool to see them out skiing and doing something they like.

I had a few regulars on my lift and we only slowed the lift if they needed us to, and then once we loaded them, we would ask if they were going to the top or to quarterway (C-4 Crystal) and then call ahead to the lift attendant at that point and tell them the chair number. They would ask the person if they needed the lift slowed or stopped upon getting to the unloading ramp.

Only once did the person ask for a slowdown on the unload, due to icy conditions.

90% of the time i see the chair slow down and or come to a stop to load. And that was @ winter park which does a lot of stuff with adaptive skiers.

The only time I have seen the ops slow it down was when the skier getting on fell off. They always when I have been there have asked if the skier wants it slowed or stoped they usualy say they dont need to.

There is a very good program at Winter Park suppoting such skiers. That is one reason we go there when one of my relatives visits.

PCMR has a National Ability Center at the base
I think it's great, disabled people should get to be outside and enjoy skiing as much as we can. I don't remember ever being at a lift that slowed down to let a disabled skeir on, but for what they have to go through, stopping a lift for a few seconds isn't anything to me

Experienced disabled skiers have no trouble getting on lifts.(to my knowledge) NCSD at Winter Park is very large.

I think people with disabilities should go for it! I have seen over 20 disabled skiers @ copper and one that I saw was on an extreme double diamond trail! Some others were skiing on blacks (my level) and a couple were on greens. Anyone can do anything (unless some part of their body is completely mutilated). Copper has an excellent program for deaf skiers, haven't seen any blind skiers though. Slowing down the lift for someone who actually needs it doesn't bug me. It's plain stupidity from able skiers that does. One time @ A-basin a girl rode around the top bullwheel. The parents promised to give her a push but the father's skipoles got caught and the mother wasn't doing anything. The girl tried to push herself but failed. It took about 45 minutes to get this girl down. About 13 ski patrol had to get her down with a ladder. That's the kind of incident that bugs me. The mother didn't do anything. Sorry for the editorial :)

Copper Hosts the State Special Olympics Winter Games Every Year. This year it's on the 27th and 28th of Feb. I plan on being out there to help.

That sounds great, Kicking Horse! BTW, I was wrong, and I've corrected the post. Boeinglover, I think that they couldn't let that girl riding around the bullwheel because some lifts aren't designed to hold that much weight on the downhill side, some even skip towers, and there may not have been a spot to unload. That lift wasn't designed for downloading. I'm fine if the guy actually needs help, or if little kids need help.
