Since I see a lot (and I mean a huge amount) of snowriders daily, I've started to notice a correlation between one's threads and one's boards. Telemark skiers tend to wear Arc'teryx, Marmot, and store brands by MEC and REI. Hardcore skiers also wear Marmot, but are more likely to wear Spyder, Phenix, and North Face. Snowboarders wear Burton, Special Blend, and Foursquare. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, but that's what I've noticed. There aren't very many crossover brands that I've seen, except maybe Columbia. Their appeal seems to cross generation and riding style lines (plus they're a bit more affordable than most brands).
Do any of you fit my hypothesis, or is this just one bored mechanic's view? I don't fit my own theory, as I have Columbia pants, a Salomon soft shell, a Sierra Designs hard shell, an REI 200 fleece, and Marmot gloves. I suupose that's because I ride all three types of plankage.

Well my gear is a cobbling of every other brand. I've got an Obermeyer Jacket, Spyder Pants, EMS Gloves. My jacket is almost worn out and there is a Spyder jacket that I really want to get.

I have the Convert outfit by Columbia. I think it was designed for both skiers and snowboarders. I just wish I had the pants that matched my jacket. :(

I ususaly ride in phenix pants and a marker jacket with a marker flece liner. I used to wear a phenix jacket but got a killer deal on a 2002 Olympics police jacket so I ski in that.

I have 2 jackets; a DC and 686. My pants are sessions and I have burton gloves. It all does a pretty good job keeping me dry and warm, but i'm starting to tear my jackets faster since im hiking more :(

I have a gray Special Blend jacket, only because it was really cheap at the 2002 Miami ski show, but it's getting a little small, and the 2005 Miami ski show isn't too far from now. I have Dakine gloves and black Columbia pants

I think this might be because the Telemarkers might be the ones who are going back country and Mountianeering.

that being said, I am an Alpine skier and I wear almost all MEC except for my EMS shell. However, i do hike a bunch in the summer (I wear my Gore Tex all year,) and have been known to dabble into mountainerring and back country. so I guess I'm one of those special cases.

Cross Country skiing is pretty demanding clotheswise. I have Various MEC and Craft undergarments. I have a Louis Garneau Racing suit and warmup clothes. Auclair Gloves. Most of that other stuff is obscure brands unique to endurance sports.

Downhill Columbia Jacket and Pants though i'm undecided about the jacket. I had a firefly previously which i though was warmer but i haven't had much of a chance to ski in cold weather with the new one. I either use Smith gogles or Oakley sunglasses depending on the weather.

I believe I have North Face coats and pants. I'm kinda young to have my own skis, especially considering my height and that my parents think I should have a growth spurt soon, so, I rent my skis.

For those who are wondering what the heck Avalanche gear is, it actually makes custom ski apparel for ski resorts. Such things as Jackets, gloves, pants, vests, etc. Mountain Uniforms is also another company like Avalanche.

Exactly SkiBachelor, Avalanche offers to custom clothing to most of the ski resorts here (in quebec): operators, ski instructors, ski patrol...

But everybody can buy their products too.

We have an odd mix of North Face, Burton (snowboard school), Mountain Uniforms (mechanics of all sorts), Spyder (ski school), and Helly-Hansen (mountain ops and base ops). Everyone used to have North Face but in the last few years every department has gotten new uniforms and Housekeeping (go figure) acquired all the North Face. I don't know what brand Patrol has but their vests are a garish 'mango' colour (bright yellow-orange). I have Mountain Uniforms pants and maintenance vest, but I stashed my North Face fleece during the changeover so I could avoid the non-functional lime-green Helly fleece. Unfortunately I welded in it so now there's holes in the sleeves...

Most managers here have Karbon jackets, while a couple have Arcteryx. Everyone else's uniforms are Avalanche, except our entire uniforms which are Ski Area Supplies. My personal gear... well I have a Jack Wolfskin jacket with Ripzone pants, I also have an older Patagonia jacket.
