Ruthie's is a high speed double at Aspen Mountain. However, it says that the carriers are actually triple carriers. So could Aspen allow three people per carrier if the lift is very busy? Could they permenantly convert it? I have noticed that the retention bar has the single prong in the middle, so could they replace it and then allow three per carrier?

So the stations are wide enough to accomodate the quad carriers? The congestion would be a factor.

Thanks, I assumed that since it was supposed to be a double, they would have compacted the terminals. Would they compact them now, if someone wanted a HSD or HST?

It's actually kind of costly to redesign the terminal to make it more compact, when there is only one order for this type of lift. Plus there are a lot of other calculations that have to be done.
However, Garaventa CTEC did design a custom HST terminal for Sunnyside Express at Alta. But this lift has had some minor issues because it wasn't all the way designed right.

I'll be sure to check that site out. Now that you bring up the issue of practically redesigning the station, it would seem better to have that standard terminal. It also would allow for future expansion.

The wider carriers probably also make it easier to bring dead sleds back up the mountain.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Yeah, come to think of it, they might use that lift for that purpose, and a double can't hold that well.

What is wrong with Sunnyside?

He was using it as an example of a compacted terminal specially designed for a HST. It would indeed offer a little lenience if Ruthie's is very busy.

It must be a comfortable ride when they only load 2 on that wide of a chair.

Yes, I know a few people who really (think they) need legroom. But I am tiny, skinny, and light, so I really am comfy on a regular sized seat.
