Thanks I have added the name 'Tee Pee Town' to the 1985 lift construction survey, but I haven't uploaded it yet.

1981 was the year that Cold Lake opened. Is it a lost ski area now?

I'm not quite sure what you mean about Nakiska taking three years to install a lift. Did one of the lifts that was mentioned on the install sheet take three years to install? Also, does anyone know the name of the former Doppelmayr platter that was at the top of the mountain?

I don't know, but probably "Summit". It was only used during the Olympics. This lift is fairly steep. To get to the summit of Mount Allan,(Nakiska Mountain) you take the Olympic Chair, then ski down to the Gold chair(Dopp Triple), then take the Gold Chair, then take the "Summit" platter.

On the Lift Install sheet, It lists the Silver Chair as being installed in 1985. The Olympics were held in 1988.

The Cold Lake Ski area is still open, I have skied it since my uncle owns about 100 acres up there(His ranch base is down by Kitscoty). They have a Dopplmayr triple.

Um...On the 1985 Installation sheet, It says that Sunshine Village got a Muller double. It is called "Tee Pee Town".

The Tee Pee Town was not installed in 1985, It might have been the Wheeler Double, wich was a Mueller.

Usually the sites are prepared a few years ahead of schedule, so yeah, could have been installed and then used for two years as a training facility or they just sat waiting for the olympics.

Checking old Nakiska trail map (1987-88 season) now... It is the Olympic Platter! I think the area opened for a partial season in 1985-86, then a full season in 1986-87. There were questions about snow coverage in the area and the operators probably wanted to prove their snowmaking system could handle it.

As for Sunshine, TeePee Town was installed before 1985 (I was first there during the last year they ran buses up to the village - before the original Gondola went in). The Mueller Double on the list has to be the Wheeler, although it probably was a partially new install. Some components (towers, most likely) came from Pigeon Mountain.

From old black-and-white scans of maps that I have, in 1981 Carpenter, Wasatch, Sultan, Homestake, and Burns were installed (only Burns will be left now :(). Then 1982 brought Sterling, Clipper in 1983, and Mayflower in 1984, all Yan triples except Burns (double). Let's see if SAM agrees

I wonder if Wastach was a used lift or SAM forgot to list it since it's not in the 1981 lift construction survey?

Do they list reinstalled used lifts? It was definetly there in 1981, here's the original 1981 trail map. Seems like if they would have gotten a used lift, it would have been Homestake or Burns, which are both relatively flat and short

Well the only reason I was asking is because I have found mistakes in SAM in the past. I guess I could have James check into it.

Just a suggestion, for years that before the SAM Magazine was released, you could have a chairlift submition system, so that people can submit lifts for that year. Kind of like the lift-world.info system.

Yes, but the problem I have with that is that the information isn't always correct. People may submit and make changes to pages thinking they know when that lift was installed when it really wasn't and it just makes a mess for us mods to clean up.

The cold lake ski hill has possibly a relocated lift. I mentioned this once before , and i think they chair is the remenant of part of a chair from marmot basin.

Yes, it was mentioned somewhere here. Probably some of the towers from the old upper part of the Caribou chair, which was shortened by about half its original length.

Hi Everyone

I just posted the 1973 lift installation survey. If any of you know the name of a ski area/resort that has changed its name, please let me know. Also the same goes for lifts that I don't have the name for.

Thanks and enjoy

Northstar's lifts (in order on the sheet):
-Turn Pike (Now Arrow Express)
-Little Springs (Now Bear Paw; Just a new name)
-Pluto (Now Comstock Express)
-Lookout (Now Pioneer, name changed when Lookout Express opened)
-Big Springs (Same name, now a gondola)

Just some notes on Canadian installations:

BRAGG CREEK---> Lyon Mountain---> Wintergreen---> NOW CLOSED (thanks again RCR!).

LAKE EDEN has been closed since the early 1990s, at least from what I've been able to gather. The chair is still there gathering rust and I've attempted to go out there and take pictures but the property is fenced and locked up. Some solid news is a new developer recently bought the property (it was also a summer resort and campground), but there is no word on whether resuming winter sports operations is among the plans.

Thanks for the info.

I probably should go through all the lift installation pages and list the resorts that were new for that season and the ones that are now closed.

Does that sound like a good idea?
