Where are you Vancouverguy?

Anyway, I believe it was struck by lightening and Seymour didn't have the funds to fix it or didn't feel like it was worth it to fix the lift up.

Well here are some pictures that Vancouverguy took about 2 years ago I think. He once was a pretty active member on the forum until he disapeared all of a sudden without saying anything.

Here is a trail map of the area. The Ridge chair is the area that has all the red lines going through it and says "area temporary closed."

WBSKI, have you skied at Mount Seymour before? if so, it is located to the right of the rental shop, about a two minute walk. It's actually quite neat to check out, I climbed inside the terminal once, and it's a pretty neat site to see. The lift itself was quite short, I actually walked down to the bottom of it once, although the operator house and all the controls have been removed.

Cam, the lift maintenance supervisor there, came by Baker a few years ago and I showed him around our Chair 4. We were about to take it down (this was the spring of '02) and he wanted to see what shape it was in for parts. He wanted to rebuild the Ridge lift but as Cameron mentioned he didn't have a lot of funds. He did end up hauling up several pickup truck loads of parts, but he could have put them on the Brockton or the Mystery Peak lifts as well, I never heard.

Check it out on Topozone.com or a site that has topo maps for Canada. I'm sure you will be able to dig something up if the lift is old enough.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

I went up Seymour today on a hike, a great way to get to the bottom of the Ridge Chair I found was to drive to the Group Campground, then take a trail that runs from the other side of the road down there until you cross a bridge with a couple holes in it and then head up the hill into the bush and not far up you will get to the ski run, (its getting quite overgrown), then cross a half dried up creek, walk along a little open parralleling the dried up stream, cross the stream again just before there is a couple logs piled up, they are slippery, walk to the chairlift, this is just one way to get to the lift, all this is fairly close together so there are multiple possible routes.

Now for the pictures!

As always, great pics! Poor old lift looks like it's in pretty rough shape. When did it stop running? It had to have been quite a while ago now because there is no safety bars on the chairs, and that rule to have them has been in place for quite some time now...

Yes, I should have taken pictures of the front side of the top building, the roof is sagging in! I believe the lift stoped around 1998?? Yes, safety bars, one more thing to add if they started the lift again, dont think they will though. It is quite a ways away from the other lifts, Seymour is bad that way, you have to walk to the other lifts. There used to be a ropetow farther down (Enquist) Where the tubing area is now, the tubing lift doesnt run all the way to the bottom of the runs for enquist.

When did the tubing lift go in? I last skiied Seymour in April of 2002 and I don't remember it.

Those pictures are depressing. It used to provide the best skiing on the hill. It was well lit for night skiing and as kids, we were on it all the time. Too bad they can't or won't fix it.

Yes, it is a shame, I never went on it, it looks good though. The tubing lift is quite aways away from the downhill area now that Ridge Chair is closed, you might not have seen it when you were there.
