:help: I am curious about the Von-Roll detachable grips, how do they work? I have looked at pictures of the VR-101 grips from the River Run gondola @ Keystone, but I can't seem to figure out how they work. Any descriptions or pictures will be great.
Also, what about the VR-104 grip.

The River Run was an '86 install. Some of the cabins are original(blue) and some have been replaced/refurbished(green).

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

Actually, the green cabins arn't the refurbished ones. They are cabins that were purchased later for more capacity. :)
Have you seen the Von Roll grips that are displayed in the Keystone Cabin Storage page? There are two pictures of the grip close up. :) I would provide you with a link, but I'm at school right now and these computers don't allow people to right click to get a source.

I think Meier Michael has some VR grip designs on his site. I don't know his website off the top of my head but I'm sure someone knows it here.
But I think it uses a torsion bar concept along with springs. So the wheels on the outside either go up or down to lock the grip onto the haul rope and springs hold the bar in place.

There were at one point more cabins on than there are even now. Before the Outpost Gondola went in the River Run had alot of cabins on the line, so much so that they would fairly forceably crash into eachother in the stations. Maybe they reduced the capacity as the cabins aged and then decided to buy more to increase it again but there were just as many if not more cabins on the line when it was new.

The top station has a different design of cadence chains. There are actualy 2 different chains running at different speeds. One is the design of the lower station and the other only has a few catches on the entire chain.

The one with only a few catches is the spacing system, the catches are spaced the right distance apart to keep them far enough apart

It looks like these grips operate in the same manner as the Doppelmayr DS series, with the mobile jaw locking open in the terminal and the actuator pulling the jaw back away from the rope. Quick assesment, but I've got to go to work now.
