Starting in the spring/summer of 2006, Intrawest plans to start construction on Winter Park's new ski village. Phase 1 will cost about $70 million and will be completed in 2008 and includes a new base area consisting of 3 parking garages, a new hotel, 2 new lifts (A chondola & ski in ski out lift) and a real-estate area. The chondola will run from the parking garages to the base area and will be a 2 minute ride.

I hope Copper doesn't get screwed and will still be able to install the lifts that it wants to.

Copper is the one that needs Parking Garages. Copper needs more Lift Cap out of the H K L pod.

PErsonaly i think Winter Park can wait a few more years and intrawest should spend more money on Copper Mountain.

Who knows why Vancouver allots funds the way they do.
This was on the books the day after the Intrawest/City of Denver agreement was signed, so it's not exactly new. I don't think it will affect us in any large way; we've been meeting with surveyors and lift types to get some profiles down on paper :) Maybe we'll finally do something this summer.

At least our parking is free, except for a few close-in lots.

Well it looks like Copper might be getting a new village again too, because the current one isn't working how Intrawest hoped. Intrawest is currently planning on designing the new village to be like the ones found over in Europe. I'm not sure how much of the village will be torn down, but there are plans to bring more beds up in front of the village to probably give it more night life along with other stuff.

News to me, especially since the 'new' village is only a few years old. We've got a new programme for nightlife going now, too. It's called 'En Fuego' (use your rusty high school spanish) and it runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I worked it this past Saturday (we run the Eagle for torchlight parade participants) and it seemed to be working- there were people all over the place and the merchants/bars/restaurants were doing well. I think Copper just needs to continue on the current agenda while people get used to it, and Intrawest can concentrate more on WP.

Copper needs higher cap lifts and Better parking. Or i'm i just use to the smaller mountains?

I think the flyer could replaced with a six pack the eagle upgraded to a six pack also. H could be replace with a quad. Have K & L combine into one lift but have a mid load / unload @ the top of the current K lift.

As for Winter Park they do need something done to the village. And i like the idea of the parking Garages. Maybe Copper Should build a few too.

The only problem with adding aditional lift capacity is the same problem that plagues Keystone. With their lift system they put way too many on too few acres. Would you rather wait in a line or have to dodge other skiers on the way down?

I like a balance, but the best is no lines and uncrowded slopes. Personally if i could (a) get on the lift right away for a packed run or wait 5 minutes and have half the people i would definately go with b. Crowded runs suck, even more then lift lines, but when its both that really sucks.

Combine the two and you've got keystone. I've been run into 5 times in the last year and they were all at keystone, in fact thats the only place where I have ever had some one run into me. I can't speak for copper since I havent been there in a number of years, but for instance Breck is fairly well maxed out on the blue and black runs and more lift capacity would be very detrimental for the experience. There are long lift lines but there is at least enough room to make turns.

I'm going to have to make if up there this year. This is kinda :offtopic:, but speaking of uncrowded areas, does anyone know if Hesprus is open this year?

Probably not. I have a feeling that might be Colorado's next lost resort for some reason.

Even at big resorts its easy to avoid lines. I've only waited in 3 or 4 lift lines this season in 17 days, so even in "crowded" tahoe its easy to avoid the lines

Its unfortunate that it may soon be lost. From what I have heard its a great place to ski the night after its snowed all day. Great powder at 9pm and the next morning at T-ride or Purgatory.
