Why do some detachable lifts have brushes all around the terminal?. My guess is that they brush off frost and dirt off the hanger arm. There annoying to me because you can't see up in the terminal. Any info on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

I think the reason why so many lifts have the brushes or rubber mats around the terminal is not to allow snow to blow up into the terminal.

But the only brush that cleans the grip before entering the terminal is this kind.

The Northwest Express at Mt. Bachelor is the only HSQ I have seen them on. But the rubber mats started to leave black stamp marks on the carrier arms and now all the carriers have plastic guards on them.

If you look on most HSQs the spot where the brushes contact the hanger arm is highly polished from the wear. Preventatively most lifts have had thin sheetmetal skins added over this spot to keep the structural integrity strong.

On older lifts it gets black, then the black starts to come off and leave it really shiny against the rest of the chair.

An ok picture of this:

The brushes are to keep snow out of the terminals and heat in. It's amazing what difference they make. I know they're annoying from a looking-inside standoint, but they are nice to have.
