First off I would like to say thanks to David T. and Tj? for taking 1 1/2 hours out of there day to give me a tour of the New Lift. There are 61 Chairs, 15 or 16 towers plus a Mid load station. There is NO DOWNLOADING ALLOWED on this lift as it would come within 40 inches of the midload station. The max speed is 1,000fpm and they normally run it close to 1,000fpm. The Mid Load Station is 120ft Long and only the upside detachs.

I will upload the pics as soon as i'm done sorting them.

But here is a pic of David and TJ?
(i think it was TJ...)

David is on the right and Tj is on the left.

Is this the first Omega type half station? Midstations are the greatest.
Jeff who did you ask for a tour?

I asked to speak with a lift mech or mountain op's. This is the only Poma in the Usa that has a mid station like that. It's a prototype.

Does this lift have the same type of drive terminal as the Ajax Express (the big fat one) or the double stack?

The so called Phatboy terminal was used from 1999-2002. The stack is on about half of these terminals and varies in length from about half to the full length of the terminal. In 2003 the Stack was dropped on the drive terminals in favour of a taller and uglier omega terminal.

I like the later ones with the stack going all the way to the back of the terminal with windows a little better, although this one is better than the new type with the extra fat drive terminal

Are there any lifts with the stack on the bottom terminal?

I doubt it unless there they are bottom dirve, but I think the Omega's tend to be top drive. I have never seen a bottom drive one yet.

Unless it would be a problem to run power to the top of a lift, most lifts are top-drive. It is more energy-efficient to pull the load directly rather than pulling it around the top bullwheel and up. Where this breaks down is Rex at Crystal. There is power available up there (chair 3 is top drive) but the lift is still a bottom drive; I suppose because it would be difficult to get up there on a new snow morning to start the lift.

Every lift at Kirkwood is a bottom drive and I believe the reason is because of wind and exposed ridges. It is kinda wierd though because they could probably save some money if a few were top drives, but it is kinda nice not seeing any power lines on the mountain.

At most resorts, the power lines are burried under ground.

What seems the most pointless is when there's one top drive and one bottom drive lift starting or ending in the same spot, although I'm sure there's a reason for it
