Here is an article that appeared on the Denver Channel's website:

Do do their copyright, they don't allow other people to republish the content that is already on their site, even if it's cited.
Anyway, I find this article kind of funny to read. What type of person decides to sue a resort 2 years later after hiting his head on a bar while riding the chairlift up. A smart person would have gone to the ski patrol if the injury was serious enough. Plus, it's going to be really hard to prove that the injury that he sustained while riding the lift is the cause of his crack smoking habit/memory loss, mkay. Drugs are bad, mkay.

It really depends what high winds are because you can get carrier and cabin swing with certain wind patters and that's when the carriers start to hit the lift towers. I know Mt. Ashland had carriers start to flip over the haul rope when the winds were blowing like 70 mph.

The Falcon Superchair's carriers were extremely prone to swinging in the wind and frequently would hit the towers. I dont know if this had and bearing on them being replaced but as the top of the lift line is tall enough to be above the trees it catches lots of wind and is very high off the ground.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

The new carriers on the Falcon are much heavier (ow, my aching back :help: ).
I believe the chair in question at Sunlight was a Riblet and that the guy hit his head on the halo (the chair guide below the sheaves). That aside, I agree that he should have contacted patrol imediately thereafter. We had to adjust a halo at Baker after a woman grazed her helmet on it when the chair swung.

There are some halos that are really low on some riblets. Chair 5 for example at the breakover tower for the 3% line turn it is very possible to hit your head on.

The older Riblet carriers had an 8' stem on them. The newer ones have a 9'6" stem, probably to avoid this very incident. Is the lift at Sunlight an older one with the tower caps welded in place on top of the tube? If so, the carriers may be the shorter ones.

According to the info on Brad's site one is a double, Primo, built in '66. The other riblet is a triple, Tercero, built in '87.
When did Riblet switch from the welded tower caps on the top of the tower?
