The reason why Bombardier sold off its rec division was because it took a big loss from its main division which was trains, space, etc and by selling the rec division back to the family, it would cover a lot of the loss and Bombardier hoped it could restructure itself. After the family took control over the recreation divsion, a year after they aquired it, they sold to Camoplast. I'm not sure if Camoplast will still use the Bombardier name on the snowcats and snowmobiles, but it looks like the big name plate that said Bombardier across the plow has been removed.

Don't forget about VMC. They make small cats, similar to the LMC 1500.

However, they are seperate from the LMC/DMC/Thiokol line.

Skiing could be the greatest sport ever... besides girls. There both up there.

That's odd to me. Thiokol runs their booster plant near here and it's a massive place located near Promontory Point (you know, where the golden spike was laid). They actually had an explosion there that killed some people a week ago. I had no idea that they made snow cats or anything of the sort.

You learn something new every day. When I moved to Colorado I drove right past the Thiokol exit on I-84 and didn't realise it was the test point for the Space Shuttle SRBs. I knew they made them but never put two and two together.

"Wow thats pretty cool that they did rockets as well."

While involved with serious amateur rocketry in 1958, the guidence of a Thiokol engineer helped me to keep my fingers (and other vital appendages) - at least until I was 57. At that time, rocketry was their only thing.

Thiokol Chemical Company originally designed and built their snocats for internal use in winter exploration. They later started selling them "retail".

One little know fact, from the Dino archives, is that they also at one time built a Potato Harvester called the "Model 20 Gentle Giant".

Don't believe me? I've got the belt buckle to prove it!

Never farmed 'em, just got the buckle when I was skinnin' 2100's!

The long of it is we had a rookie kid working with us when I was grooming (a former life) and he had a hard time matching the grade of the pass he was following. We'd get on the radio and ask him if he was planning on planting potatoes in the "row" he was leaving. So his name became Tater and the Thiokol Rep showed up one day and gave my whole crew one of these buckles.
