In case any of you Colorado folks have wondered, the Eagle was closed today and possibly tomorrow for an emergency repair to the drive bullwheel. We noticed last week that some of the retainer bolts on the keeper plate had worked loose and/or were broken. After a week of checking and/or replacing them every night, we closed the lift last night and rigged to drop the bullwheel down to inspect the hub and shaft. I was not involved with the project so that is all I know at this point. When I go back to work on Thursday (I have Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday off in the winter) I will find out what else happened. Scary stuff but that's why we inspect the lifts every day.

John,

I was unaware of the eagle even closing.

How is the flyer doing or is it not open yet?

The Flyer is fine. There was an article in the Summit Daily yesterday about us closing the Eagle, but maybe that's as far as our press release made it.

The Eagle is all better now. Two bushings inside the bullwheel hub were worn due to the fact that they were spinning inside the hub. There are supposed to be set screws inside securing the bushings to the bullwheel but they weren't installed back in '89, apparently.

We've just detensioned the Red chair... will take pictures of the rigging on Monday when I go back to work, and put them in their own topic, or maybe tomorrow I have to go fix the weather station!
