I personally don't understand why Intrawest chose to use the Cabriolet style cabins on a decent length lift. I would have just made that a high-speed quad. It's too much of a hasle to take your skis off and put them back on riding that lift everytime.

yea and it defeats the whole purpose of the gondola. They could have put in a HSS

Of the other Cabriolets that i know of all are only people movers. I've ridden these lifts before and they're really not that much of a hastle to use at least no less than a regualar gondola.

HSS have a greater capacity than a gondola, but it all depends on the gondola's cabin size. For example, a 15 person gondola can have the same capacity of a high-speed six pack, both at 3,600 skiers per hour. But an 8 person gondola has the capacity of a high-speed quad.

The eventual goal is to convert the Cabriolet to a six-pack, replace the triple with an HSQ and use the cabriolet cabins as a people mover from the parking lot to the village (which is being built on the existing parking lots)

I also remember reading in SAM that the Granite Peak Quad was designed to be upgraded to a high-speed quad too.

However, the Cabriolet doesn't look like it can be switched to a HSS unless there will be new terminals because the current UNI terminal is too small.

If that was the plan, why didn't they start off with a HSS instead of dealing with all that later? There would be a lot of extra cabins

I think it was pretty much a marketing thing. That and it is very easy to take your downhill rig on board with you in the summer.
